Highest safety standards: Five Euro NCAP stars for Opel Zafira Tourer
and Astra GTC

 New Opel models get top marks in crash tests
 High degree of body work stability and passenger protection

Rüsselsheim/Brussels. There have been further top marks for new Opel car models from
the independent consumer organization Euro-NCAP (European New Car Assessment
Programme). Crash test experts awarded five stars in terms of safety and accident
prevention both to the Opel Astra GTC and the Zafira Tourer.

“The topic of passenger safety has always been high up on of the agenda of Opel,” says
Rita Forst, Vice President GME Engineering. “We are proud of the latest five-star results
and are very pleased not just to have met the safety standards with the Zafira Tourer and
the Astra GTC but to have surpassed them.” In all test categories (passenger safety for
adults and children, as well as pedestrian safety and driver assistance systems) both
vehicles achieved excellent results. The NCAP announcement comes almost two months
after the Opel Ampera electric car was also awarded five stars by Euro-NCAP.

Both the Zafira Tourer and the Astra GTC performed brilliantly in the crash tests with a very
high degree of bodywork stability. The cabin interiors and safety components in both cars
are designed in such a way that the risk of injury through, for example, knees making
contact with instrument panels, is minimized. Safety belts for child passengers were found
to offer an excellent level of protection in both cars.

The Euro-NCAP consortium (European New Car Assessment Programme) which is based
in Brussels consists of representatives from EU transport ministries, automotive
associations, car insurers and consumer lobby groups. Its rigorous test standards are

higher than the minimum required by EU law. They are therefore seen as an international

Euro-NCAP has set up a standardized test that examines the risk of injury for passengers
and pedestrians in different crash scenarios. Dummies are used to simulate the impact on
different parts of the human anatomy. Crash simulations include tests which involve full
frontal and lateral collisions with other vehicles and fixed objects.

The new Zafira Tourer sets new standards for flexibility and atmosphere in the monocab
segment with its fully re-designed Flex7 seating system. Opel’s “lounge on wheels” is top
of its class in terms of fuel efficiency and driver assistance systems.

The looks and dynamic handling of the new Astra GTC are a highlight in the Opel compact
segment. The coupé appeals mainly to customers who value emotional design and an
optimized front axle complete with HiPerStrut (High Performance Strut) suspension.
