The New Delhi Airport
• When you arrive in Delhi you will need to have your travel documents ready.  Your flight attendant
will give you a short immigration form to fill out during your flight as well. Use either of our hotels
as the local or Indian address.
• You will first go though immigration then onto the baggage claim.
• Once you have your bags, you will need to go through customs and declare the things you have in
your bags.
• Once you exit the customs area you can look for your driver.  He will be holding a sign with your
name on it and he will bring you directly to our hotel.
In the unlikely event that you cannot locate your driver, you can call Shashi at +91-9810024692 or take a cab
directly to the hotel.

Travel Document Photocopy Check List
In the event that you loose your travel documents, it is helpful to have photocopies of your
important travel papers. I suggest one set of copies for each bag. If you want to take extra
precautions, you can give a set of copies to a traveling companion as well.

Mobile Phones, Calling Cards & STD
While your mobile phone may work in India for both SMS texting and calls there is usually a
substantial roaming charge so be sure to consult your wireless provider. Airtel is an Indian phone
company that offers calling cards as well as mobile phones and GSM cards to give you a local Indian
phone number. You can easily walk into an Airtel agents office (there is one on every corner) to set
up service once you are there.

There are also STD (Subscriber Trunk Dialing) sites throughout India which offer affordable rates
for international calls. You will see clearly marked signs in both Rishikesh and Delhi

Tipping
At many hotels and restaurants a service fee is included with your bill. If it is not included, it is
always nice to leave a tip. While 15%-20% is customary in the United States, tips are generally
smaller in India. Of course it is nice to be generous, but overdoing it can come off as insulting.
Beggars
There are two kinds of beggars. Those that need and those that are taking advantage of you.
Children are most often “put to work” by their parents. If you give to one, you will be hounded by
many more.
There are some beggars with cups near temples. Five or ten rupees in their cup is always nice.
The rule of thumb: If someone approaches you and asks you for money ALWAYS SAY NO. If
someone is sitting quietly with a cup, a small donation is a nice gesture.
