This Strategic Plan Template seeks to simplify the process of building your Plan, and will provide you with points that you may not previously have considered. A well-built Strategic Plan will help your organization determine the direction it needs to take while keeping the goals, mission and vision of the company in the forefront of its long-term goals. Follow the instructions in each of the sections below, and complete them with as much relevant information as you are able to obtain in order to build a comprehensive and useful tool that will provide you with insight on the direction you should take to achieve maximum success and that will better position you to obtain the capital that you may need to realize that success. Involve the right people in your organization to assist in the planning process. Think about the people in your organization who know the ins and outs of each of the elements listed below, and include them in the process of building your Plan. Parse out the different sections so that the information you include comes directly from the subject matter expert in that area. When you have your first draft put together, seek the input of the best writer you have on your staff, even if it’s your assistant – you will want the Plan to be free from spelling, typographical and grammatical errors, and every set of eyes that you can enlist to proofread can help avoid such issues. Finally, when the first draft is complete, put it away for a day or two before proofing it again. When developing documents such as this, it is easy to become so close that you miss something. Giving yourself a couple of days away from the project can help you to review it with fresh eyes and ideas the next time. Elements of a Strategic Business Plan Executive Summary This should be just what its title implies – a summary. It should include relevant information related to the other sections of your Plan, providing highlights of what the reader can expect in the sections that follow. This is a critical component of your plan and must be written so as to be engaging and to provide incentive for the reader to want to dig deeper into your Plan and learn more about what your organization will be able to accomplish. Business Details Strategic Planning Template 2 This is where you begin to get into the nitty-gritty of your Plan, providing detailed specifics on the products or services you are offering. It is important to remember that not everyone knows as much about your business as you do, so you must write this section in a way that someone wholly unfamiliar with what you do can glean understanding from the information. That means that you should spell out or provide definitions of any technical terms that you use, and refrain from peppering this section with acronyms that those who do not share your level of expertise may not easily understand. Market Analysis Being able to lend this section substance is going to necessitate some prior research. When analyzing a potential market, there are three important considerations: (a) determination of the best market for the service or product you offer; (b) how price should be aligned with market conditions; and (c) the nature and extent of the competition for your product or service. You may choose to retain the services of a professional marketing agency to complete this research on your behalf, or you may opt to take the project on yourself. If you do elect to research the market conditions on your own, please see
