Leadership of the 21 Century –$1,000 scholarship is available to four seniors in Chesterfield
County who are planning on attending a Virginia public or private 4 year school. Cosby students
will compete with students from other high schools in the county. Information is available in the
Career Center. See Mrs. Tylus for the application. Deadline to apply is December 15, 2011.

 The Gates Millennium Scholars Program - The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by
a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide
outstanding, low income African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives*, Asian Pacific
Islander American**, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an
undergraduate college education in any discipline they choose. Information is available at

EDUCATION IS FREEDOM – A scholarship opportunity is available to high school seniors who
have shown academic progress and financial need. Information is available at:

Lee-Jackson Scholarship. Scholarships vary from $2,000 to $10,000. Criteria: submit
outstanding essay on the career, character, or some other aspect of the life of either General
Robert E. Lee or General “Stonewall” Jackson, or both. Applications are available at www.lee-
jackson.org . Deadline to apply January 11, 2012.

SAE Engineering Scholarship Program – Scholarships are available to students planning on
pursuing a career in engineering. Information is available at

1, 2011.

USDA 1890 National Scholars Program – Department of Agriculture and the Historically Black
Land Grand Institutions will award scholarships to minority students. Information is available

KFC Colonel’s Scholars - Scholarship opportunity for high school seniors with financial need.
Minimum 2.75 GPA, and plan to enroll in a public college or university in your state of residence

Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship – All high school students are
eligible to apply. Students must submit application to a local Elks Lodge. Information and
applications are available at http://richmondelks.org/scholarships.aspx
Deadline to apply is December 2, 2011.

Lexus of Richmond Scholarship – Scholarships are available to Richmond area high school
seniors based on academics, athletics, leadership, citizenship and community service. Students
are nominated and applications are submitted on a weekly basis, and recognition dinner. One
winner will be chosen from the weekly candidates, to receive a $10,000 scholarship at the end of
the school year. Applications and information is available in the Career Center
