BRINGING BOOKS ALIVE WORKSHOPS There are two Bringing Books Alive workshops
planned for Term 1 “Waddle, Giggle, Gargle” by Pamela Allen and a special Easter Bilby
workshop using the book “The Bilbies First Easter” by Irena Sibley Simple, fun interactive
activities, rhymes, songs and stories using everyday items to help and develop early literacy
with very young children. Feedback from all participants has been wonderful and we now
have a group of people who attend all the workshops!!
SHARED MORNING TEA. Just a reminder to bring morning tea items to share with other
families. It would be great, if you remember, to bring something occasionally to make the
break time more interesting. It is an opportunity to show off your cooking prowess (or
shopping skills).
NATIONAL YEAR OF READING 2012 is the National Year of Reading which is very exciting.
Butterfly Wings is a partner of the 2012 National Year of Reading initiative:
http://www.love2read.org.au/partners.cfm
In 2011 the Butterfly Wings team was provided with a grant writer by Logan Council to
apply for a grant to deliver BRINGING BOOKS ALIVE workshops across Logan City in 2012 for
parents, grandparents, childcare educators and anyone who has a young child in their life.
We have not yet heard if we were successful with this grant application. Keep fingers
crossed!
BUTTERFLY WINGS WEBSITE. A Rhyme for the Month is put on the Butterfly Wings website
which is full of lots of ideas relating to a rhyme and special theme. The Rhyme of the Month
for January 2012 is related to the National Year of Reading. The Rhyme for February is
related to Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon Have a look at the website as Lisa,
the other half of the Butterfly Wings team, has done a magnificent job of illustrating the
rhymes and providing great information related to the National Year of Reading and the
Year of the Dragon. The website can be found at www.butterflywings.com.au

RECOGNITION OF THE BUTTERFLY WINGS PROGRAM BY ROYAL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
MELBOURNE “LINKING SCHOOLS AND THE EARLY YEARS PROJECT”
At the end of last year we heard that the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne “Linking Schools
and the Early Years Project” recognised the Butterfly Wings Program as a national good practice
community program which is working in partnership to improve outcomes for children and families.
The first and only example of good practice of an Early Years Program on the RCH website at
present. This was very exciting news to have such high level recognition of the innovative and unique
Butterfly Wings Program. .http://www.rch.org.au/lsey/sharing.cfm?doc_id=14442
