2010 Election: SAMPLE UNION LETTER to Unemployed Members
Jerry Brown created 1.9 million jobs
Meg Whitman made a personal fortune by cutting and outsourcing jobs
Dear Union Member,
These are tough times for our members who are out of work. The union is doing everything we can
to put people back to work, and we need a governor who will help us create more jobs.
The two candidates for Governor are completely different when it comes to jobs.
Meg Whitman said she will lay off 40,000 more -- just as she did when she was a CEO of Hasbro,
Stride Rite and eBay -- and made a fortune by sending jobs overseas. Her biggest priority is to give
more tax breaks to the wealthy and big corporations. She said so.
An important way to put people back to work is to rebuild roads, bridges and schools. Meg
Whitman said she opposes California high-speed rail -- which would create a half million good jobs
-- even though voters approved it, and Washington is sending more than $2 billion to help build it!
Jerry Brown, on the other hand, helped us create more than 1.9 million jobs last time he was
governor. And they were good-paying jobs.
We looked at both their plans. Jerry Brown plans to create 500,000 clean-energy jobs, bring
manufacturing back to California, support high speed rail and rebuild our infrastructure ... Meg
Whitman will give tax breaks to the wealthy and says, “Don’t worry, the rich will use the tax breaks
to give us more jobs.” Guess which one I have more confidence in.
Creating more jobs for our members is the best way to turn the economy around! And that’s what
we’re fighting for!
Jerry Brown will help us. Please help me get him elected. It’s for all our members who really need
to get back to work.
