Dear Teacher:

I invite you to consider becoming an instructor for the 2012 Honeywell Maryland Summer
Center for Ecosystems Education at Horn Point located at the University of Maryland
Environmental Center in Cambridge, Maryland. Please review the enclosed information to
determine if you meet the qualifications. If you are interested, please submit the required
components of the application outlined on the checklist by February 3, 2012 to:

Qualifications
   Teaching certification in environmental science, biology, or life science
   Three years or more of successful teaching in middle school or high school
   Participation in Investigating and Evaluating Environmental Issues and Actions
       (IEEIA) training or willingness to acquire training before summer 2012
   Thorough understanding of the Maryland State Curriculum in Environmental
       Science, PreK-8 and the Environmental Literacy Standards, PreK-12
   Experience teaching gifted and talented students

Requirements
    Completed application including résumé
    Support of current school principal
    Letter of recommendation from current science supervisor
    Personal essay
    Interview by MSDE GT Education/Science staff

Duties
    Instruct at the Honeywell Maryland Summer Center for Ecosystems Education at
       the University of Maryland Environmental Center at Horn Point, Cambridge,
       Maryland, a Maryland Summer Center for Gifted and Talented Students
        – July 14 - 28
    Participate in 2 days of professional development prior to Center opening
    Implement the IEEIA model for environmental investigation at the Center

  organizations, publications, awards)

 Letter of recommendation from science supervisor

 Essay (300 words)
Submit a summary of an environmental science, biology, or life science lesson you have taught
that reflects differentiation for gifted students in content, process, or product. Be sure to explain
your reasoning behind the instructional decisions you made and show how the lesson is
substantially different for gifted students from average students.
