					         The Vancouver Sun K1 Provincial Championships
                                              Event Guide

Welcome to The Vancouver Sun K1 Provincial Championships for 2008. Grouse Tyee Ski Club and
Cypress Ski Club, in partnership with Grouse Mountain and Cypress Mountain, are pleased to welcome
our young athletes from across the Province. We are pleased and privileged to host this event and hope
that the athletes, coaches, sponsors, parents and volunteers take many fond memories home from this
year’s Provincial Championships.

This guide has been provided to answer basic questions about the race venues and events. Please be
aware that schedules and events identified in this guide are subject to change due to weather and other
influences. The Race Organizing Committee will do its best to provide timely information on any
changes. Daily updates will be provided at the Coaches’ Meetings scheduled for each evening. Please
check with your coaches for the most up to date information.

Please remember  all athletes are expected to help with course tear down on Sunday and Monday.
Specific assignments will be provided at the Coaches’ meetings.

How do I make sure this is a wonderful experience?

               HAVE FUN! Focus on skiing well and results will follow.

               Be respectful and polite at all times. Remember, you are representing your club and
                yourselves.

               Remember our sponsors have invested in you because they believe in you. Many of our
                sponsors have come to see you  show them what a great investment they have made
                in the future of our sport. Thanks a sponsor when you see one. Tell them how they have
                helped you reach your goals.

               Thanks the volunteers, your coaches and your parents  they have all contributed
                countless hours to your enjoyment and safety.

Where are the Race Headquarters?

On Grouse Mountain, the Race Headquarters are at the Grouse Tyee Club Cabin, a short walk or ski from
the top of the Skyride. Here you’ll be able to purchase snacks and beverages while exchanging stories
with your friends from the other Clubs.

On Cypress Mountain, the Race Headquarters are in the Race Centre tent adjacent to the Snow School.
Snacks and beverages can be purchased in the Black Mountain Lodge across from the Race Centre tent.

Please note that backpacks and other personal belongings may not be left in public cafeterias, etc. on
either mountain.

General information about the mountains can be obtained from their respective Guest Services offices or
from their web sites, www.grousemountain.com/Winter and www.cypressmountain.com.

Lift Tickets

Lift tickets for training on Grouse on Friday, March 14 should be purchased from the resort on training
day. Regular lift prices apply. Lift tickets for training on Cypress on Friday should be purchased from the
Cypress Ski Club volunteer in the Black Mountain Lodge by separate cheque payable to The Vancouver

Sun K1 Provincial Championships. The ROC has arranged a special price of $15 per athletes training on
that mountain on Friday.

Lift tickets for Saturday and Sunday will be available for coaches to pick up at Registration Friday
evening. Lift tickets for Monday will be available for coaches to pick up in the Cypress Race Centre tent
at 7:00 a.m. on Monday. Payment for the lift tickets for all three days must be made at registration.

Complimentary lift tickets for volunteers will be provided for each day at the volunteer check in at the base
of the Grouse Mountain Skyride on Saturday and Sunday and at the Race Centre tent on Cypress on
Monday.

Lift tickets for spectators will be available at the Mountains’ ticket offices. The ROC encourages all
athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents and visitors to load the Grouse Mountain Skyride by 7:30
a.m. at the latest, after which lift line privileges we have arranged will not apply.

Pedestrian access will be available to the race venues on all three days. Spectators wishing to walk to
the course will require a sightseeing ticket to access the Skyride on Grouse and will receive a
complimentary ticket for walking to the race course on Cypress.

Ski Tuning Facilities

Teams should arrange their own tuning facilities at their hotels.

When and Where are the Awards Ceremonies?

Awards for the Saturday and Sunday races will be presented at the banquet Sunday evening. Awards for
the Monday races and overall results will be presented at the Cypress Mountain Guest Services Plaza
immediately following tear down.

Will photos be taken of the race?

We have arranged for a photographer to be on the course each day. Photos will be available for viewing
at the banquet.

What about volunteering?

Ski races are powered by a wonderful team of volunteers! Join the team this week and meet old friends
and make new ones who share the love of ski racing.

Complimentary lift tickets and lunches are available to volunteers. Volunteer check in is at the base of
the Grouse Skyride between 6:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and in the Race Centre
tent on Cypress between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Monday. We invite all volunteers to an informal

meet and greet in the Grouse Tyee Club Cabin on Saturday after the races and in the Race Centre tent
on Cypress after tear down.

Other Important FAQs

How long does it take to get to the mountains?

For athletes, coaches and families staying at one of the hotels on Capilano Road, the drive to the bottom
of the Grouse Mountain Skyride will be about 15 minutes and Cypress Mountain Alpine Area the drive will
be about 25 minutes. Please note that depending on weather conditions, good winter tread tires, chains
or four wheel drive may be mandatory on the Cypress Mountain Road.

Is parking free?

Parking at Cypress is free of charge. At Grouse, the paved parking lots closest to the Skyride terminal
are pay parking ($5.00 per day). Parking in the gravel parking lot just below and to the right of the
Skyride terminal is free.

When are the resorts’ food services open?

Starbucks at the bottom of the Grouse Skyride will be open at 6:00 a.m. for coffee and light snacks and
Lupins Café at the top of the Skyride will be open for breakfast from 7:00 a.m. The cafeteria in the Black
Mountain Lodge on Cypress opens daily at 8:30 a.m. All facilities are open late.

What About Start Lists and Results?

Start lists will be provided to the coaches at the Start Corral on each race day. Information will be
distributed on a priority basis to coaches and race officials. Please remember that the race office is
extremely busy on race days  we are happy to assist visitors and parents but please be patient.

Hard copies of results will be distributed to coaches as soon as they are available and will be posted
nightly on the BC Alpine web site. Live timing will also be available.

Can I buy tickets to go to the banquet?

Tickets for family to attend the banquet will be available for sale in the Grouse Tyee Club Cabin on

How do I get to the banquet?

The banquet Sunday evening is at Mulgrave School, 2330 Cypress Lane, West Vancouver, just off Upper
Levels Highway at Exit 8.
