					Basics Of Dribbling For Basketball

Dribbling is one of the core essence for basketball. Dribbling is needed to move from point A to point B
in a basketball game and it also allows the player to help with the scoring for the team. The best ball
handlers in the game are normally the point guards. The point guards are the leaders on the court which
creates chances for the team through their dribbling and also passing. In order to be a very successful
dibbler, a lot of practice needs to be put into it.

The Basic Dribbling Skills
At the start to create the perfect form, the player will first need to learn how to dribble the ball low to
the ground and on his own fingertips. The ball must not touch the palm, only along the tips on the
fingers. The ball should be bounced with enough energy but not too hard. The players wrist and forearm
are the main parts that should keep the ball bouncing and the players head should always look in front.
The player must train to dribble and not look at the ball. To be a very successful basketball ball player,
training to dribble the ball with both hands is absolutely necessary. Being able to dribble with both
hands will increase the attacking options on the court and it will confuse the defenders or make them
uncertain on which way you will be dribbling with the ball. In order to get better control, the players
hands should be on top of the ball.

The Importance Of Dribbling The Ball
The most important need of dribbling the ball is to bring the ball up the court for an offensive position.
Most of the bigger players most of the time do not need to dribble. For most of the other players
dribbling is a must to advance the ball up the court, to create an opportunity during an attacking play,
getting out of sticky situations when the player is surrounded by opponents, dribble the ball down the
paint to score or to create chances for the big guys. A good handle on the ball would make the player a
very useful person to have on the court and an asset to the team.

The Different Methods To Improve Dribbling The Ball
The best method to increase the players dribbling skill is to dribble as much as the player can. An
example would be to dribble the ball when the player is going for a walk, whenever he is free or
watching TV. The more the player dribbles the ball, the more he would be able to dribble the ball
unconsciously. Its best to dribble with both hands to improve the skills of bringing the ball with the
weaker hand.
There are also training programs that can help to assist with increase the skills of dribbling with the ball.
The beginner ball handling techniques would be to sit down and dribble with both and as well as
standing up. The player can also dribble in between the legs, around the back and in and around the
legs. Practicing simple crossovers will also help with honing the skill of the player to not look at the ball
and get a better feel of the ball. Once when the player is used to dribbling the ball with a single hand,
the player can start dribbling with two balls at once. Once a player manages to dribble with two balls, he
would be able to get the ball to stick to his hand and perform very tricky moves.

The Different Styles Of Dribbling
There are different styles to dribbling and each style has a specific scenario before it is used. During the
process of a match, it’s good to keep the ball away from your marker that is guarding you tightly by
keeping your body in between him and the ball. In this situation, its best to turn to an angle where your
free hand is blocking his body from moving to steal the ball. There is also another situation where the
player manage to get the ball for a fast break. Sprint right down the lane by throwing the ball in front of
the player so the player chases the ball. There are also more advance moves that can be used for
offensive purposes like the cross over, in between the legs, the hesitation dribble, the body fake dribble
and many other moves.
