AWARD: $ 2,000 Full-time, $1,000 Part-time

Minimum of 20 hours per week of work at an AH&LA member hotel and at least one (1) year of

BENJAMIN MUTNICK METTLE AWARD
AWARD: Up to $1500
DEADLINE: March 1
REQUIREMENTS:
Full-time, undergraduate student with a declared major in hospitality and tourism management
Making satisfactory academic progress according to the norms established by the University
Application available in the HTM Office.

GRAND TRAVERSE AREA HOSPITALITY ASSOCIATION
AWARD: $500
DEADLINE: May 1
REQUIREMENTS:
Student must be a current high school senior or college student planning to attend a college or university
to study hospitality in the 2011-2012 school year.
Student must have an accumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
Student must provide a current resume
Student must provide a minimum of two (2) letters of recommendation with only one (1) allowed from a
school official. Letters must not be from relatives.
Student will be required to submit a one-page essay explaining why he/she should receive a GTAHA
scholarship, outlining both educations and career goals for the year.
Scholarship Recipient will be required to attend a meeting of the GTAHA in the spring of 2012 to report
their previous year’s education and career experiences.
Students may reapply in future years for available scholarships.
Scholarship is open to any student in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, and Leelanau counties.
Applicants may be asked to interview with the scholarship committee in person.

Must be nominated by a dean, department head, or faculty member

INTERNATIONAL FOODSERVICE EDITORIAL COUNCIL (IFEC)
AWARD: $500-$4,000 (4-8 awards given)

REQUIREMENTS:
A combination of your work experience, prior education or training and current course of study should
indicate that you are preparing for a career in editorial, public relations, marketing services,
photography, food styling or a related aspect of the communication arts within the foodservice
industry. This is a key requirement.
Must be a full-time student enrolled as of March 15, 2011, working toward an associate’s, bachelor’s, or
master’s degree
Enrollment must be in an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the U.S.
Expected graduation date must be no earlier than January 1, 2012
You should have a strong academic record, good character references, and demonstrate financial need
Completed and typed application form
An official transcript of your current or last year of study must be included with your application or sent
directly from the institution
Two letters of recommendation from a supervisor, teacher, advisor or other foodservice or

KENT COUNTY LODGING ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
AMOUNT: $500-$1000
DEADLINE: February 25, 2011
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be enrolled in either a Hospitality, Travel/Tourism, or Food Service program at a university
Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
Must be in at least the 2nd year of the program
Must have 500 hours at least of on the job experience in the field of study
Must submit a one page essay detailing why you should get the scholarship. Also outline your career
goals and educational goals.
Must attend a KCLA meeting in spring of 2010 if you get the scholarship in order to update the board on
your education and career experience in the past year.
May reapply for scholarships in future years

Plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student during the upcoming academic school year in an
accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. with a hospitality management or culinary program
Plan to pursue a degree within the hospitality management, hotel management, culinary, or food and
beverage field.
Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale

WEST MICHIGAN SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS FORUM SCHOLARSHIP
AWARD: $5,000
DEADLINE: March 5
REQUIREMENTS:
Open to students in any field of study at any of the accredited universities, colleges, or extensions in Kent,
Ottawa, or Muskegon county
Submit a two part essay consisting of 1,000 to 1,500 total words:
Part A: Applicant will share their personal interest in and understanding of sustainability and
sustainable business practices. The essay should demonstrate the applicant’s knowledge of the
linkages between sustainable business theory and practical application to their chosen course of study.
Part B: Applicant will suggest a least five (5) opportunities to enhance the integration of sustainability
and triple bottom line thinking into the curriculum at their school. Suggestions need not be limited to
the applicant’s primary field of study.
