AMERICAN HOTEL AND LODGING EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION (AH&LEF)
    American Express Scholarship Competition - AH&LEF
          AWARD: $ 2,000 Full-time, $1,000 Part-time
          DEADLINE: Accepting applications January 1st- April 1st. Notifications of award status July 15th.
          REQUIRMENTS:
               Full or part-time student
               Minimum of 20 hours per week of work at an AH&LA member hotel and at least one (1) year of
                 hotel experience OR a dependent of a qualified employee and have past employment in some
                 capacity in the hospitality industry
               Self-nominated

    Annual Scholarship Grant – AH&LEF
          AWARD: $500-$3,000

                Undergraduate with hospitality management major

    Ecolab Scholarship - AH&LEF
           AWARD: $2,000

       Steve Hyman’s Extended Stay Scholarship - AH&LEF
              AWARD: $1,000 - $3,000
              DEADLINE: Accepting applications January 1st – April 1st. Notifications of award status July 15th.
              REQUIREMENTS:
                  Full or part-time student
                  Minimum of 3.0 GPA
                  U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident
                  Experience working/interning at a lodging property
                  Preference given to students with extended stay experience
                  An undergraduate hospitality management major
                  Nominated by school with a request from the dean

        **All applications must be submitted to the HTM Office for any of the above scholarships
                                            by April 1, 2011.

BENJAMIN MUTNICK METTLE AWARD
       AWARD: Up to $1500
       DEADLINE: March 1
       REQUIREMENTS:
          Full-time, undergraduate student with a declared major in hospitality and tourism management
          Making satisfactory academic progress according to the norms established by the University

       Application available in the HTM Office.

GRAND TRAVERSE AREA HOSPITALITY ASSOCIATION
       AWARD: $500
       DEADLINE: May 1
       REQUIREMENTS:
          Student must be a current high school senior or college student planning to attend a college or university
            to study hospitality in the 2011-2012 school year.
          Student must have an accumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
          Student must provide a current resume
          Student must provide a minimum of two (2) letters of recommendation with only one (1) allowed from a
            school official. Letters must not be from relatives.
          Student will be required to submit a one-page essay explaining why he/she should receive a GTAHA
            scholarship, outlining both educations and career goals for the year.
          Scholarship Recipient will be required to attend a meeting of the GTAHA in the spring of 2012 to report
            their previous year’s education and career experiences.
          Students may reapply in future years for available scholarships.
          Scholarship is open to any student in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, and Leelanau counties.
          Applicants may be asked to interview with the scholarship committee in person.

HOSPITALITY MAJORS APPLICATION

HYATT PLACE GRAND RAPIDS-SOUTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND
     AWARD: $500

     REQUIREMENTS:
        Must be an undergraduate student and enrolled as a full-time junior or senior with a declared major in
          hospitality and tourism management
        GPA of 3.0 or higher
        Making satisfactory academic progress according to the norms established by the University

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CONFERENCE CENTERS (IACC)
IACC Conference Center Industry Award
      AWARD: $5,000
      DEADLINE: February 4th and no earlier than January 1st.
      REQUIREMENTS:
          Must be nominated by a dean, department head, or faculty member
          Full-time, active student pursuing hospitality related degree at an accredited institution
          Minimum 3.3 GPA
          Ability to demonstrate interest in pursuing a career in the conference center industry
          Letter of recommendation explaining in sufficient detail the candidate’s worthiness and verifying his/her
             GPA
          Personal statement describing interest in the hospitality industry, career goals, and why you deserve the
             award
          Brief essay (approximately 200 words) on the subject of “The role that conference centers will play in the
             future of the meetings industry”
          Resume
          Any other information pertaining to award decision (e.g., involvement in hospitality related organizations,
             extra-curricular activities, internships/direct work experience)

           Previous IACC scholarship winners ineligible
           A letter of recommendation from a faculty member explaining in sufficient detail the candidate’s
              worthiness and verifying his/her GPA
           A personal statement from the candidate, concisely describing his/her interest in the hospitality industry,
              his/her career goals, and explaining why the candidate feels that attending this conference will help to
              achieve these goals.

INTERNATIONAL FOODSERVICE EDITORIAL COUNCIL (IFEC)
     AWARD: $500-$4,000 (4-8 awards given)
     DEADLINE: March 15
     REQUIREMENTS:
        A combination of your work experience, prior education or training and current course of study should
          indicate that you are preparing for a career in editorial, public relations, marketing services,
          photography, food styling or a related aspect of the communication arts within the foodservice
          industry. This is a key requirement.
        Must be a full-time student enrolled as of March 15, 2011, working toward an associate’s, bachelor’s, or
          master’s degree
        Enrollment must be in an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the U.S.
        Expected graduation date must be no earlier than January 1, 2012
        You should have a strong academic record, good character references, and demonstrate financial need
        Completed and typed application form
        An official transcript of your current or last year of study must be included with your application or sent
          directly from the institution
        Two letters of recommendation from a supervisor, teacher, advisor or other foodservice or
          communication professional familiar with your skills must be included with your application
        Essay questions may be answered on a separate page attached to your application

KENT COUNTY LODGING ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
     AMOUNT: $500-$1000
     DEADLINE: February 25, 2011
     REQUIREMENTS:
        Must be enrolled in either a Hospitality, Travel/Tourism, or Food Service program at a university
        Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
        Must be in at least the 2nd year of the program
        Must have 500 hours at least of on the job experience in the field of study
        Must submit a one page essay detailing why you should get the scholarship. Also outline your career
          goals and educational goals.
        Must attend a KCLA meeting in spring of 2010 if you get the scholarship in order to update the board on
          your education and career experience in the past year.
        May reapply for scholarships in future years

MARRIOTT SCHOLARS PROGRAM
    AMOUNT: Full tuition up to $9,000
    DEADLINE: March 1st
    REQUIREMENTS:
       Be of Hispanic/Latino heritage
       Be U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico
       Plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student during the upcoming academic school year in an
         accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. with a hospitality management or culinary program
       Plan to pursue a degree within the hospitality management, hotel management, culinary, or food and
         beverage field.
       Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
       Be an upcoming freshman or sophomore for the 2010-2011 school year

MICHIGAN RECREATION AND PARK ASSOCIATION (MRPA)
    AWARD: $500-$3,000 (nine (9) awards given)
    DEADLINE: February 16
    REQUIREMENTS:
       Applicant must be a current MRPA member
       Applicant must be enrolled in a Michigan University or College
       Applicant must have completed a minimum of nine (9) credits in Recreation at time of application
       Applicant may be subject to screening prior to the panel interview
       Applicant must appear in person for a panel interview at MRPA Headquarters in Okemos, MI on Friday,
         March 25, 2011, at a time to be scheduled
       Applicant must attend the 2012 MRPA Annual Conference & Trade Show Scholarship Award
         Presentation (specific day TBD). The conference is scheduled for February 6-10, 2012, in Dearborn, MI

          remaining beginning Fall semester 2010 before graduation
        U.S. or Canadian citizen and attending college in the U.S. or Canada during the scholarship award year
        Students must be enrolled full-time, be in good standing, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher

WEST MICHIGAN SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS FORUM SCHOLARSHIP
     AWARD: $5,000
     DEADLINE: March 5
     REQUIREMENTS:
        Open to students in any field of study at any of the accredited universities, colleges, or extensions in Kent,
          Ottawa, or Muskegon county
        Submit a two part essay consisting of 1,000 to 1,500 total words:
              Part A: Applicant will share their personal interest in and understanding of sustainability and
              sustainable business practices. The essay should demonstrate the applicant’s knowledge of the
              linkages between sustainable business theory and practical application to their chosen course of study.

                 Part B: Applicant will suggest a least five (5) opportunities to enhance the integration of sustainability
                 and triple bottom line thinking into the curriculum at their school. Suggestions need not be limited to
                 the applicant’s primary field of study.

academic year. These scholarships, however, are available each year. If the
deadline has past for a particular scholarship of your interest, please note that this
scholarship will be available next year and the deadline will be approximately the
