CONSUMER AND FAMILY MEMBER VACANCIES ON MENTAL HEALTH BOARD
Each county in California is required to have a Mental Health Board. The foremost role of the Board is to re-
view and evaluate the community's mental health needs, services, facilities, and special problems. The Board
provides a vital two-way communication link between the community, the Director of Mental Health, and the
County Board of Supervisors. In order to perform this function, the Board is composed of community represen-
tatives appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Each supervisor may appoint a family member of consumers of
mental health services, a direct consumer, and a professional with experience and knowledge of the public men-
tal health system. The Board currently has three vacancies: (1) a direct consumer in Supervisor Diane Jacob's
district; (2) a family member in Supervisor Greg Cox's district; and (3) a member of a mental health discipline in
Supervisor Bill Horn's district. If you are interested in applying for a vacancy, contact
Marianne.Wedemeyer@sdcounty.ca.gov or phone her at (619) 563-2705. Marianne will be able to identify the
district in which you reside and mail an application if you are eligible.

Note: NAMI San Diego staff and board members are prohibited from serving on San Diego County’s Mental
Health Board because we receive funds from the County to provide family and consumer education and other
activities. However, other NAMI San Diego members are encouraged to share their expertise on this important
board.
