On Wednesday night I attended the POA/Sgt. Membership meeting where they voted to
reject the City’s last offer. The membership in turn approved the following counter offer:
1. Term: 18 months (1-1-09 to 6-30-10)
2. Retirement: 3@55% effective 7-1-09 (Union requests detailed explanation at Feb. 5
meeting regarding differences between financing cost through Cal PERS and City
financing with reserve fund monies)
3. Wages: Opener on wages only 12-31-09
The Union Negotiating Committee requested the City Council members be informed the
membership has a general perception that Public Safety is low on the City’s priority list
given the recent large sums of money spent on the solar project while at the same time
declining to spend a similar amount of money to ensure the Citizens of Lemoore have
quality and competent Police Officers protecting them and their property. In addition, the
Committee requested assurance the Council will also be educated on the differences
between the two different funding options for the 3@55% retirement enhancement, since
the extraordinary amount of reserve fund money available to the City would appear to be
a cost saving funding option.
As I’m sure you know, the Committee and the Membership are concerned the cost of the
retirement enhancement (to a Law Enforcement Community standard level) will likely
continue to increase, as recent history has shown.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
