                                 Application Package


                                     Eligibility Criteria

   Must be a full-time student at Lincoln University.
   Must have a minimum of 72 credit hours at time of application submission and a
    maximum of 90 credits hours at the end of spring Semester 2012. Transfer students must
    have at least two years matriculation (4 semesters) at Lincoln University.
   Must be able to serve the full academic year (following fall and spring semester).
   Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0
   Must be active in a minimum of two (2) campus co-curricular activities.
   Must have participated in a minimum of one (1) community service/volunteer activity
    within the current academic year (must provide a letter confirming service; service must be
    completed outside of the Office of Student Life and Development)
   Must obtain two (2) letters of recommendation from a member of faculty and/or staff.
   Must obtain two (2) student letters of recommendation.
   Must be in good financial standing with the University.
   Must be in good judicial standing with the University.
   No student who has served as Mr. or Miss Lincoln University during his or her
    matriculation is able to compete again.
   Must not be married.
   Must have served in a leadership role during matriculation at Lincoln University.
   Must submit a complete application.
   Must attend Mr. and Miss Lincoln University interest meeting at 6pm on January 18, 2012.
                                  Candidate Requirements

   Candidates must be prepared to demonstrate a talent that can be showcased as a part of the
    Mr. and Miss Lincoln University Competition, as well as the nationwide competitions for all
    HBCU kings and queens.
   Candidates must prepare and submit a typed portfolio that must include:
        o A Personal Biography, which should not exceed one (1) page.
        o A Formal Declaration, which should provide your personal plan of action and
            principles you wish to incorporate as Mr. or Miss Lincoln University.
        o A Program Proposal, which should include an outline of 3-5 programs, activities, and
            events that you will implement during your reign or as a member of the court.
   Candidates must attend the Kings and Queens Conference on February 11, 2012.
   Candidates must be able to attend the NASAP Student Leadership Institute in May/June 2012.
   Candidates must participate in all rehearsals for the Mr. and Miss Lincoln Pageant; must also
    participate in Coronation upon becoming Mr. and Miss Lincoln and/or members of the
    Court of Royalty and Excellence (CORE).

                      Mr. and Miss Lincoln University and CORE Requirements

   Mr. and Miss Lincoln University must conduct one program per month during the following
    months: September, October, November, January, February, and March (programs may be
    joint amongst CORE members).
   Mr. and Miss Legacy and Orange & Blue must conduct two programs per semester (programs
    may be joint amongst CORE members).
   Members of CORE must sponsor at least one community service project in the fall and spring
        semester. Projects may be on campus.
       Members of CORE must always carry themselves professionally and appropriately, in
        appearance and otherwise.
       Serve as a mentor to two freshmen students for their first year.
       Once the CORE has been formed, following elections, all members must sign a contract.

                                       Pageant Attire Requirements
Each contestant is responsible for providing their own attire and props, unless otherwise stated.
Specific attire may be required for opening scene at contestants’ own cost.
All pageant attire is subject to approval from the pageant coordinator.

                                            Incentives/Awards

       An annual stipend up to $2,000 for the year (contingent upon meeting program
        requirement).
       Single room (student is responsible for cost).
       Funds for programming (proposal should be submitted for programs requiring funding)
       Mr. and Miss Lincoln University will receive a personalized sash.
       Mr. and Miss Legacy and Orange and Blue will be provided a non-personalized sash that the
        Office of Student Life and Development will own.
       Mr. and Miss Lincoln University may participate in a national competition (the Office of
        Student Life and Development will determine participation).
       Mr. and Miss Lincoln University shall receive a stipend to cover the expenses of attire for
        the coronation and other activities and events, in an amount decided by the Office of
        Student Life and Development.
       Mr. and Miss Lincoln University, Legacy, and Orange & Blue may receive free entry into
        events, if they are sponsored by the Office Student Life and Development.
Mr. & Miss Lincoln University are prestigious representatives of the University community, and shall
serve as the official representatives at all official on campus and off campus events, as requested. The
major responsibilities of the king and queen including assisting in admissions efforts, providing
leadership to community service projects, planning and assisting in major university events, and
representing the university at national competitions. They both should serve as positive role models for
the entire Lincoln community, and are considered excellent examples of leadership.


                           Mr. & Miss Lincoln University Duties & Responsibilities
       Must attend and represent the University community at all major events such as University
        convocations, receptions, and various other events as designated by the Office of Student Life &
        Development.
       Must attend and assist in all major activities coordinated by the Office of Student Life &
        Development including, but not limited to: New Student Orientation, Pump Handle,
        Homecoming, African-American Heritage Series, Family and Friends Day and Spring Fling.
       Must attend all local, regional and national conferences and events related to university kings and
        queens, as delegated by the Office of Student Life and Development. Attendance will be decided
        by the Office of Student Life and Development.
       Assist the Office of Admissions in recruitment efforts throughout the academic year, as required.
       Serve as the official host and hostess of the University.
       Assist with coordinating events pertaining specifically to king and queen such as the Coronation,
        CORE Royalty Conference, and other programs as outlined by the Office of Student Life and
        Development.
       All other activities as deemed necessary by the Office of Student Life & Development.

The Court of Royalty and Excellence shall consist of all runner-ups in the Mr. & Miss Lincoln University
Competition. The eight class kings and queens will serve as the High Court.
                                 Responsibilities of the Court of Royalty

       Participate in and assist with activities coordinated by the Office of Student Life & Development,
        as requested.
       Serve as a university tour guide for the Office of Admissions, as required.
       Serve as hosts and hostesses in addition to, or in the absence of, Mr. & Miss Lincoln University.
       Participate in all Homecoming activities including, but not limited to, the Mr. & Miss Lincoln
        University Coronation, the Homecoming Parade, the Halftime Show for the Homecoming football
        game, and various other activities that may be deemed necessary by the Office of Student Life and
        Development.
       Assist in the preparation of events such as the Coronation, Competition, etc. as requested by the
        Office of Student Life and Development.
       All other activities as deemed necessary by the Office of Student Life & Development.

                                         Organization Sponsor
        Each candidate is permitted to select two (2) organizations to serve as their sponsors.

                                Organization Sponsor Responsibilities
          Serve on the set-up and clean up committees for the pageant and coronation.
    The sponsoring organization must have a minimum of seven (7) members who will be
        willing to serve in this capacity.
    The sponsoring organization will serve as hosts and hostesses for the pageant and
        coronation.
    Organizations will only be bound to this agreement if the contestant they agree to sponsor
        becomes Mr. or Miss Lincoln University.
    Community service hours will be awarded towards the university requirement for campus
        organizations.
      The organization’s president or president-elect may sign as the representative for the
   organization; however, the actual term that the organization performs assistance will take
  place in the academic year following the application/pageant process. By signing below the

    If you are 5 minutes late to anything listed above 1 point will be deducted from your final score.
      20 minutes late will be equivalent to an absence and a loss of 5 points from your final score.
                            Any excuses should be documented prior to practice.
                   If sick please call, and make sure you have a note from Health Services.
                         More than 2 unexcused absences may result in elimination.
     Upon submission of applications, contestants are expected to be dressed properly and conduct
                                    themselves appropriately at all times.
           Failure to do so will result in the loss of 5 points from your final score on each offense.
All contestants must be present at the International Cultural Center by 4PM the day of the
competition.
