• Skills are THE HOW TOs of THE ROLE
• Skills can be transferred from one person to
  another
            Knowledge

• Knowledge is simply What You Are aware of
• Two types of knowledge:
   ✴ Factual Knowledge - Things you know
   ✴ Experiential Knowledge - Understanding
      you have picked up along the way
                 Talents

• Talents are conceptual understandings that
    remain constant in your life.
•   This conceptual understandings carve your
    recurring patterns of thought, feeling and
    behaviour
• Talents cannot be trained - it is given
3 Kinds of Basic Talents


• Striving Talents: explain the why of a person
• Thinking Talents: explain the how of a person
• Relating Talents: explain the who of a person
     Combination of 3
• Every person will consist of the combination
  of Striving, Thinking and Relating with
  different variations
• No matter how much you want to differ,
  your recurring behaviour will remain stable
  trhougout your life
• Remember D-I-S-C? this is one of the tools
  to identify the combination of those 3

 So? What can we do?
• Know your people! Know the job! Select the
  right talents for the right job
• Set Expectations! By defining the right
  outcomes ... not the right steps
• Motivate them! By focusing on strength ...
  not the weakness
• Develop them! By finding the right fit ... not
  simply promoting from staff - supervisor -
  manager
        Know the Job!
• Is the Business Process clearly Defined in
  your unit?
• Have you identified Role and Responsibility
  for every person in your unit?
• Use the Job Document. Is it relevant with
  the Role and Responsibility that you expect?
• Determine on the person’s talent! You can
  use his/her D-I-S-C Profile or you might
  know by your own observation
         Set The Right
         Expectations!
• Make sure your people know what is
  expected of them!
• Set the KPI (Key Performance Indicator) of
  their job
• Explain why that KPI is very important and
  what his KPI contributes to the Mission and
  Objective of your unit
              Motivate!

• If you know your people’s talents - then you
  should know their strengths
• Focus on their strength!
• Give a right challenge according to their
  strength!
• This will thrill them!
        Develop them!
• Remember! Promoting is not the only
  answer to develop a person!
• Some people need job enlargement!
• Some just need bigger target vs bigger
  achievement
• Fact: Most people don’t even know their
  own talents! Managers should!
