Permit fee cut for roof rehabs

Hermitage commissioners on Thursday lowered the building inspection fee for replacement and
renovation of roofs. The fee has been 12 cents per square foot. “While this is an appropriate fee for
building renovations, it creates an excessive fee for roof work,” Gary P. Hinkson said in a memo to

fee.” The fee has been changed to $100 for every 5,000 square feet of roof that is replaced or
renovated. “Under the amended fee structure, the 100,000‐squarefoot roof renovation/replacement
permit would cost a more reasonable $2,000,” Hinkson said.
The new schedule is “in line” with the city’s cost for review and inspection, he said. “This is reducing a
fee instead of raising a fee and I think it’s good,” said Commissioner Rita L. Ferringer.
