Part One: Introduction
                (General features of the institutions)

Canada is a country with an approximately surface of 9580000 Km² and a population of 30,8 million
citizens. Eight higher education institutions offer degrees in the fields of Geodesy, Cartography and
Surveying. Just three institutions and contact Professors of Canada have been asked to check the
questionnaire prepared by the working group, with the aim of obtain the necessary information to report the
study systems of the country. These institutions have checked it:

       - University of New Brunswick
       - University of Calgary

General features of these higher education institutions are presented in Table 1.

Part Two: Graphical representation (comparison) of curricula

With a bar diagram (Table 3) it has been compared the number of hours/week assigned to each group of
subject within the institutions.

Similarly, with circular diagrams (Table 2) it has been contrasted the percentage associated to each group
of subject from the total hours of the institution curriculum.

Part Three: Brief analysis of the actual situation in the country (conclusions)

In sight of the general features table (Table 1), we could observe that the University of New Brunswick
degree has a huge range of subjects due of the specializations.
In addition, in sight of the graphics, we could indicate that the most important groups of subjects in each
degree are:

University of New Brunswick University of Calgary
                            Other Geosciences
                                                                Basic Sciences
                                  Others

The high percentage of the “Basic Sciences” in the University of Calgary is due to common curriculum for
all engineering during the first year of the programme.
