General Description (Purpose and Function):
The supervisor will supervise, orient, train, evaluate and monitor on-the-job performance of staff responsible for third
party medical billing. This position requires the supervisor to motivate staff to ensure monthly departmental goals are
met. The position will be responsible for ensuring that all tasks are carried out in accordance with the established
guidelines.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):
     Supervises, orients, trains, evaluates and monitors on-the-job performance of staff responsible for third party
       medical billing area.
     Assists the Manager, Medical Billing and Director, Medical Billing with the day to day operations and
       management of the unit.
     Assists Medical Billers with day-to-day billing issues as needed.
     Motivates employees through use of positive reinforcement and recognition of employee problems with
       efforts to resolve these problems.
     Manages workflow to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
     Completes compliance requests and reports correction resolution.
     Cross-trains team members in all facets of billing functions.
     Interacts positively with members of the Faculty, Senior Administrative Team and Hospital Staff by cultivating
       liaisons and promoting interaction.
     Investigates inquiries made by: Faculty, Administration and Department Directors, providing prompt
       feedback.
     Provides routine feedback to Billing , Payment Posting and Collection Managers.
     Audits team members work to assure they are in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
     Review and forward coding/CDM issues received from collectors to appropriate.
       Department for review/correction.
     Prepares and submits daily, weekly status and quality assurance reports such as: daily productivity,
       transactions, interface edits/reports, invalid vouchers, balance sheets, batch proofs.
     In consultation with Manager, Medical Billing, initiates performance management process to address on-
       going performance issues as necessary. Makes recommendations on disciplinary actions.
     Ensures that employees report to work on time and oversee their time recording in Kronos system.
       Approves time off in accordance with UM policies while maintaining adequate staff.
     Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD9 & CPT4 coding used for diagnoses and medical treatments
    Computer skills that include MS office

          Posses a basic working knowledge of all modifiers, surgical modifiers in particular, CPT and ICD-9 coding
           and how these three items drive reimbursement.
          Knowledge of third party payor requirements, reimbursement rules, and laws and regulations that govern
           collection activities including the Florida Prompt Pay Law.
          Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
    High School Diploma.

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
    Minimum three (3) years medical billing experience is required.
