2010 ENCH 4350 Survey of Dr. Henry

1. In my goal of applying my knowledge of unit operations to the identification,
formulation, and solution of engineering problems, Dr. Henry has been helpful to me:

Describe (be as specific as you can) how Dr. Henry helped you to apply your knowledge

He did not dumb every experiment down, so in
order to understand what was going on in the
experiment, I had to think logically about what
exactly was happening in the experiment. This
gave a deeper understanding of what was going
on.
He pointed out flaws in my method and possible
ways to fix them.
He pointed us in the right direction in the heat
transfer experiment. ( what needs to be done, how
to solder, how to set it up.)
He presented initial experiments and allowed the
students to develop and formulate the experiment
that would demonstrate sound data collection.
Some of the experiments were a little vague at
first introduction and could be more helpful to the
students if more detail was provided.
He presented initial instruction on psychrometer
function and usefulness.
It was his idea for the solution of the heat transfer
project.
Provided the guidaince to ensure we met our
goals. Provided feedback on reports and
presentations proir to presenting which was very
helpful.

Describe (be as specific as you can) how could Dr. Henry make you more comfortable in appling your
knowledge:

Applying or appling! By having the heat transfer
experiment already setup
 applying*
Good class, can't think of any at this time.
He could have gone into more details about some
of the equipment that we used, and how to use
them (psychrometers).
He is very good about steering the students into
the right direction when analyzing data.
No suggestion. He was readily available for any
questions or "discomforts".
 Nothing. He does great.

Describe (be as specific as you can) how Dr. Henry helped you to conduct experiments:

Gave feed back and helped overcome problems
such as figuringo out concetrations of reactants in
the reactor project. (measure weight, lost weight
went to co2)
He always had some new idea for an experiment
and described in detail what he wanted. Not how
to get there, just what he wanted.
He suggest that ice water and boiling water would
be an option for use in psychrometer calibration.
He told us how to use the anemometers
He was able to offer constructive advice for
designing the experiments for each project I
worked on.
He would help us get started and then leave us
alone to conduct the experiments. THis gave a
greater understanding of the project.
See above. A little more direction with experiment
development.

Describe (be as specific as you can) how could Dr. Henry make you more comfortable in conducting
experiments:

It would be useful to familiarize students with the
lab at the beginning of the course.

Describe (be as specific as you can) how Dr. Henry helped you to analyze experiments:

He informed us what data he expected the heat
transfet tube to gain and how it can be used.
helped me by allowing me to make assumptions
but forcing me to justify or defend them.
I was unsure what the distribution of humidity
data meant in the 2nd floor of the lab and he
suggested that it is a variety of factors. Further, he
presented examples.
In particular with the cooling tower, he helped me
to understand how to calculate the energy lost.
Once the student approaches him with their data
interpretation, Dr. Henry revises their evaluation
appropriately and effectively.
 Pointed out problems in calculations
You set up labview so that I could actually collect
my data and transfer it to excel. This is a major
help when I go to analyze my data.

Describe (be as specific as you can) how Dr. Henry helped you with presentations:

Having the class evaluate me allong with him gave
me insight on how to improve my presentation
skills.
He reviewed my psych data presentation before it
was presented to the class.
Helped with feedback prior to presenting giving
me the opprutunity to improve my presentations
Provided positive feedback on presentation drafts.

Describe (be as specific as you can) how Dr. Henry helped you with reports:

 Haven't submitted a report
He encouraged peers to review and he reviews
reports.
He points out incorrect usage of certain words.
Provided feedback, gave me opprutunities to
correct errors found and determine cause of error
Provided positive feedback on report drafts so
that you would not get docked for things that were
honest mistakes or were not to his liking.
The process of evaluating the reports and allowing
us to revise them helped me to improve my
writing skills
