Course Descriptions Basic Lay Speaking The ten-hour basic course includes a study of what it means to be God’s called people and how we may be at work for God in our communities. The course gives checklists, outlines and step-by-step plans with an overview of the various ways lay speakers can serve their church and provides learning opportunities in three areas of service: leading, caring and communicating. Leading in Evangelism The purposes of this ten-hour course are to gain a deeper understanding of biblical hospitality as a foundation for the faithful congregations, to look more closely at the culture and climate of our congregations and to explore ways in which they may grow in their ministry of welcoming and making disciples and to form teams that include the pastor and lay people that will develop strategies to help congregations proclaim the faith. Leading in Stewardship The purpose of this advanced course is to develop a holistic understanding of stewardship and to understand the role of stewardship in relation to the mission and vision of the church. Leading and Teaching Adults This is an advanced course on teaching and leader development, intended for educators and volunteers in the local church. This course will help you become more competent in teaching and leading in a classroom or small group. Notice to Lay Speakers Every three years, Local Church Lay Speakers must complete at least one approved refresher course and Certified Lay Speakers must complete at least 10 hours of approved course work. Notice to Pastors If requested, pastors taking an advanced course will receive credit toward their Continuing Education requirement.
