Kankakee Community College along with Joliet Junior College, Prairie State College and
South Suburban College worked to develop a CTE program that would meet the needs of
the transportation and distribution industries in their area.
The college’s used WIA Incentive Grant funds to:
created five courses which target TWL skills and competencies
develop a 29 hour certificate program in Global Supply Chain
develop a 14 hour certificate program in Supply Chain Management
develop a non-credit curriculum for entry and advanced level training
develop a general TWL cluster video and a college specific flash movie ad
each college utilized remaining funds to:
o provide scholarships
o purchase TWL related equipment
RFID laboratory hardware and software
forklifts
Unique aspects of this initiative include:
each college has identical approved certificate programs and related courses
each college will rotate the delivery of online coursework
each college will register their in-district students
the sending college will be responsible for instructor acquisition and payment
the sending college will prorate the cost of the instructor and bill the receiving
colleges
Kankakee Community College will host the marketing video with a link to the
other community colleges for the college specific video
each college will submit for WIB certification
colleges will continue to meet to facilitate future TWL offerings and initiatives
