INTRODUCTION
     Mumbai earlier was made of seven islands which are
      today called Colaba, Mahim, Mazgaon, Parel, Worli,
      Girgaum and Dongri.
     Mumbai is a cluster of Seven Islands and derives its
      name from Mumbadevi, the patron goddess of the koli
      fisher folk, its oldest inhabitants.

     The people of Mumbai are commonly
      referred to as Mumbaikars and the
      languages that are mostly spoken are
      Marathi. English, Hindi.
     Mumbai is the country's financial
      powerhouse, the nation's industrial
      heartland, and its economic nerve center.

Elephanta Caves, (Mumbai)


                                     Hewn out of solid rock, the Elephanta Caves date back to 600 AD, &
                                     attract more visitors each year than the entire city of Mumbai.
                                     The cave complex is a collection of shrines, courtyards, inner cells,
                                                        grand halls and porticos.




                                                               Marine Drive, (Mumbai)

     Marine Drive is an avenue with concreted six lane roads in
      the Arabian Coast and is officially known as Netaji Subhash
      Chandra Bose Road.
   Marine drive is termed as Queen’s necklace, as it glows like
  a necklace in the night with the streetlights and is seen from any
  elevated place in the city.




  Fashion Street,(Mumbai)


                                              Location: Opposite Azad Maidan in South Mumbai.
                                              Attractions: Clothes and fashion accessories at cheap rates.
                                              Famous For: Readymade clothes.
                                              Timings of Fashion Street Mumbai: This busy street is basically all
                                     days open from morning 11:00 till late 8:00 pm, but best is to go between
                                     12:00 to 4:30 as little less crowd is expected during same time. Sundays are
                                     all full.
Victoria Terminus (VT Station), Mumbai
                                               Modeled on the lines of the St. Pancras Station
                                          in London, Victoria Terminus is undoubtedly the Raj's
                                          piece de resistance, Complete with carved stone friezes,
                                          stained glass windows and flying buttresses.
                                               The station was christened to commemorate
                                          Victoria Jubilee Day in 1887 when India's first steam
                                          engine puffed out to neighboring Thane, about 45 kms
                                          away.
                                               Today it has been rechristened Chhatrapati
                                          Shivaji Terminus after the Maratha warrior.


         Hanging Garden, Mumbai
     Perched at the top of Malabar Hill, on its
      western side, just opposite the Kamala Nehru
      Park, these terraced gardens, also known as
      Ferozeshah Mehta Gardens, provide lovely
      sunset views over the Arabian Sea.
     The park was laid out in the early 1880s over
      Bombay's main reservoir, some say to cover the
      water from the potentially contaminating
      activity of the nearby Towers of Silence.



                                                          Essel World, (Mumbai)
      This is Mumbai's only international-style theme park and
      amusement centre situated close to Gorai Beach.




      Water kingdom, (Mumbai)
     Water Kingdom is Asia’s largest theme water park.
     Strategically located near Essel World in Gorai, Water
      Kingdom is a hot favorite entertainment zone.
     It is an extension of the Essel World and has a lot many to
      be explored.

     Indian food is different from rest of the world not
      only in taste but also in cooking methods.
     It reflects a perfect blend of various cultures and ages.
     Foods of India are better known for its spiciness.

                                    Pav Bhaji is the king of Mumbai street food.
                                    This is one dish that feeds millions of people around India on a
                               daily basis.
                                    This melt-in-your-mouth Indian delicacy is a staple snack of the
                               people of Mumbai and the city serves some of the finest pav bhaji.




                                                                                     Vada Pav
     This Mumbai street snack is super cheap -- a mere ` 10/- prepared faster
      than a McDonald's McAloo Tikki Burger and provides a fulfilling shot of
      carbohydrates when a main meal is not to hand.
     The vada pav contains an array of flavors which best describe the local
      palate: A richly fried, starchy spiciness, strong essences of tangy garlic
      and a just a trace of coconut -- all soaked up in a soft, fibrous bun.

   Public Transport
    Local trains, buses, taxis and autorickshaws are the major means of public transport in Mumbai.
    Local trains operate on three lines i.e., Western, Central and Harbour. For the convenience of the
    commuters, monthly and quarterly passes are also made available.

   Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST)
    Buses cover almost all of Mumbai and are linked to all the suburban railway stations. Air-
    conditioned/luxury services are also available on select routes.

   Taxis
    ply all over the city and its suburbs, the minimum fare being Rs 20/-. Air-conditioned taxis popularly
    called 'Cool Cabs' are also available in the city. However, it costs 25% more than normal taxi fare.

   Autorickshaws
    are allowed to operate only in suburbs and the minimum fare is Rs 12.00/-. There is a 50%
    surcharge on the autorickshaw and taxi fare between 12 am and 5 am. (For details refer to the fare
    table in the Transportation section).

   Car Rental
    One can hire a car on a day-to-day basis. The average rental, depending on the model, varies
    between Rs 1650/- and Rs 2550/- for eight hours, up to eighty kilometres. Every extra hour costs
    between Rs 100/- to Rs 120/- and the cost of an additional kilometre ranges between Rs 20/- to Rs
    35/-.

   Mobile Phone Services
    The city has GSM & CDMA based mobile phone network, covering the suburban area. There are
    major brands for GSM i.e., AirTel , Reliance, IDEA, TATA DOCOMO and Vodafone. Mobile phones
    are also available for hire, with prepaid and postpaid Sim Cards.

   Markets and Shopping Areas
    Mumbai is a shopper’s paradise. It has every kind of product, in every price range, to satisfy every
    wallet. You can shop in the streets or venture into the air-conditioned shopping arcades of the top
    hotels like the Taj and the Oberoi. Crawford Market, Coloba Causeway, Fashion Street, World Trade
    Centre, Breach Candy, Linking Road and Dadar TT are the some of the places where you can
    satiate your shopping appetite. Zaveri Bazar has all the beautiful jewellery you will ever want to buy
    and Chor Bazar (the thieves market) offers you everything from the original to the replica, whichever
    you can afford.
                                        Warnings: -
 SAFE LOCAL TRAVEL
                       If not taking a prepaid taxi or a metered taxi/rickshaw, negotiate the
                fare before taking off.
                       If spending a lot of time with a taxi driver (or any driver), it helps if he
                speaks and understands basic English
                     Be aware of travel warnings. Some areas are considered unsafe for
                foreigners.


                                                                                         THEFT


   Most Common theft is ladies purse/hand bag snatchers.
   Strangers on bike snatch purses & mobile phones.
   Be Aware of Pickpockets.

                   If there are signs saying “No pictures”, don’t take pictures!
                   E.g. (Some airports & bridges, Military Bases, etc. are off-limits!)
                   Take pictures of worshippers/Religious Places may sensitive.

 Money Matters

                Double-check all hotel and restaurant bills for errors.
                Don't leave cash and valuables in your hotel room.

   Though Mumbai is a modern metropolitan city, Women
    advised to dress appropriately covering shoulders.
   Short skirts & Miniskirts are better avoided in public places.
