									2010 St. Matthew’s Christmas Faire

Rejoice in the Gift of Giving

    Live and Silent Auction Catalog

   Friday November 19, 2010
       Six O’clock in the Evening
Dear Ones,

This will be my third Christmas Faire and I am confident that this year will be as joyous as
the past two. When I see the generosity and love of the community that is St. Matthew's
made tangible during the magical Friday evening it warms my heart. As the economy
struggles to recover its footing, the need for the services of our outreach partners grows.
And, while these fiscal woes continue to weigh on all of us, it is a testament to the entire St.
Matthew’s community to see people go the extra mile to contribute and to bid on the
terrific offerings from all of the auctions knowing that every penny will go to the outreach
ministries of our parish.

Yes, all of the net proceeds from the Faire go to the Parish’s outreach partners. This is a
terrific reason to rejoice in the gift of giving at the Christmas Faire with generous hearts –
and open pocket books. People both near and far will benefit from the funds raised
tonight; orphans in Africa, children in Belize, the children of prisoners and the prisoners
themselves, homeless teens and adults will receive help because of the funds raised
tonight. On behalf of the recipients of our outreach grants, I challenge each and every
one of you to join me in making this year's Christmas Faire even more successful in
building community and generating outreach dollars.

The faithful, good souls on the Christmas Faire Committee work tirelessly to make the
annual Christmas Faire both enjoyable for our community and to generate the much need
funds to fuel our outreach partners simultaneously. When you encounter them, thank
them, for they are the heroes of the Christmas Faire. I like the analogy of the duck
swimming smoothly across the surface of a pond. The Christmas Faire, so superbly well
planned and executed seems smooth and effortless just like that duck. But under the
surface and unseen, the orange duck feet are paddling madly. The Christmas Faire
Committee works tirelessly to have the Faire be smooth and accessible to the rest of us
and believe me they have been paddling madly! Please, join me in supporting their efforts
and attend the Faire.

The generous offering of underwriting, of vacations, dinners, wines, gift cards and the
many other treats to be auctioned off on Friday, November 19th are a wonderful way to put
the commercial onslaught of Christmas under the discipline of Christian stewardship. We
can and do have great fun at the Christmas Faire, AND, we do Christ's work in the world
in the process by excelling in generosity as we bid at The Faire.

I cannot think of a better way to rejoice in this season of giving than to care for "the least
of these" whose welfare Jesus places in our hands. Rejoice in the gift of giving and help
bring the blessings of Christ to those in need in the season of Christ's coming! Dear Ones,
come to the Faire!

Love,

Howard
Letter From the Chairs

Event Chairs: Callene Momtazee and Amy Childress
Auction Chairs: Lynne Weaver and Heather Kadenacy

Dear Friends of St. Matthew's,

We are delighted to welcome you to the 2010 Christmas Faire. On behalf of the Parish
of St. Matthew and St. Matthew's Parish School, we want to thank you in advance for
supporting this wonderful Christmas tradition. Our theme this year is “Rejoice in the
Gift of Giving.” As we are taught in Luke, “give, and it will be given to you…for the
measure you give will be the measure you get back.” We hope that this evening will
give back to you in ways similar to the blessings the chairs have received in planning it.
We are grateful to all of you who donated your time, energy and other resources to make
this event possible. Thank you; you’ve given us more than we could hope to give back.
All of the net proceeds from this evening will go directly to our Outreach partners (listed
on the following page) and the money raised will literally touch thousands of lives.
We appreciate the spirit and dedication from the entire St. Matthew’s community that
makes this event a success. We want to extend a special thank-you to all our Christmas
Faire volunteers who have devoted endless hours to creating and planning this special

community. Thank you!

                         Ojibwa Sustainable Organic Products

The Ojibwa (also known by their Anglican name Chippewa) are amongst the largest group
of Native Americans living in the US and Canada. Their roots on this continent go back
some 500 years.

A little more recently, a gentle soul named Howard Anderson called them neighbors in his
native Minnesota. It is Howard’s wish to share the greatness of the Ojibwa traditions with
our Parish that has enriched our Christmas Faire for the past three years with the Ojibwa
Boutique which sells some of the organic, sustainably produced delicacies produced on
the Minnesota Reservation next to Howard’s childhood home. By purchasing these
products, you support our outreach partners and the Ojibwa economy – and your palette.

Maple Syrup (si-si-ba-kwaf) symbolized good relations between people and harmony
between the physical and spiritual worlds. The sugar-making season (like Thanksgiving)
was a time to give thanks, honor the deceased, and pray for safety, health, and long life.

Wild Rice (mah-no-mim) is a central part of the Ojibwa culture and tradition. The Native
Americans who originally harvested this grain relied on it as an essential part of their
winter food supply. Teams of tribesmen in canoes harvest this rice. Doing so honors the
Ojibwa traditions – and protects the crops The Ojibwas continue to campaign to protect
wild rice standards, combating genetic manipulation, and fighting the misrepresentation
of paddy rice as wild rice.

Muskrat Coffee (or "black medicine" as the Ojibwa call it) is culled from small batches
of specialty from the White Earth Reservation in Northern Minnesota. This coffee comes
from a worldwide market of indigenous communities who grow their beans sustainably.

524 VOICES ON HIGH
Be blown away by the amazing sound of the LA Master Chorale with two tickets to the concert on 12/12/2010 at the Walt
Disney Concert Hall at 7PM. Grant selected Mozart’s magical re-orchestration of Handel’s beloved Messiah for our classic
holiday offering this season. Mozart added instruments normally used in a late 18th century symphony -- French horns,
flutes, clarinets -- and expanded the strings, giving them a greater role and the popular oratorio a fuller sound. This
symphonic and sensuous arrangement demands every member of the Chorale in this full-length Messiah -- a feast for the
musical palate. This year, you can sit back and bask in the glorious sound of our great chorus as it performs this
      traditional favorite.

908 PETER MICHAEL #1
      2003 Les Pavots Chardonnay (magnum)
The flagship of Peter Michael in a very hard to find magnum form. This wine was purchased directly from the winery and
stored horizontally in a climate controlled cellar. Fill level, label, and cap are without fault.

      Robert Parker: 94 Points
The 2003 Les Pavots (61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot) exhibits notes of
melted licorice, tapenade, damp earth, black currants, and cedar. Slightly more herbaceous than the 2004, with notions
of barbecued meat as well as blue and black fruits. Drink between 2008 and 2020.

      Region: Burgundy, France
      Allen Meadows' Burghound: 91-94 Points
Explosive and spicy black fruit nose that offers even more volume that the RSV if not quite the phenomenal purity. The
flavors are classic young Beze with rugged, intense, indeed even stout yet this has so much velvet that it is utterly
seductive. This finished with amazing power and length and at present, the firmly tannic backbone is entirely buffered.
Extremely impressive and like all of these wines, this is built to last for decades.

stored horizontally in a climate controlled cellar. Fill level, label, and cap are without fault.

      Robert Parker: 95 Points
The exquisite 2004 Chardonnay La Carriere has gained in stature since I tasted it last year. Luckily, there are about 2,250
cases of this beauty in both 2004 and 2005. Again, crushed rocks, orange marmalade, lemon blossom, white peach, and
subtle wood aromas and flavors emerge from this full-bodied, fresh Chardonnay.

      Robert Parker: 95 Points
The light straw/green-colored 2004 Chardonnay Belle Cote offers an exotic nose of tropical fruits, litchi, nuts, tangerines,
and brioche. Gorgeous acidity buttresses the wine’s full-bodied, concentrated mouthfeel and freshness. It could easily
pass for a grand cru from Chassagne-Montrachet.

The saturated black/purple color is followed by aromas of gorgeiously pure blackberry and cassis scents. Toasty oak
notes are barely discernable given the wine's bombastic display of black fruits, huge, chewy, glycerin level, and senstional
      finish.

      Wine Enthusiast: 95 Points
Quintessa 2007 opens to rich, complex aromas of dark black currant fruit with undertones of raspberry, licorice, and
spice. On the palate, the wine delivers what the nose promises—power and refinement with a mélange of complex cassis,
blackberry, mocha and sandalwood spice flavors. A broad, rich middle palate and a long finish offer a delicate balance of
intensity and elegance, full fruit and supple tannins. This vintage will gain complexity in the bottle and age gracefully for

True to its place of origin, this Pinot Noir is bold in its bright expression of Bing Cherry and cola flavors. The texture is
luscious and a touch of acidity adds grace and elegance. It has beautiful ruby red tones and great clarity; overall it is a
classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.

This wine offers crisp acidity upon entry unfolding with juicy flavors of strawberry, raspberry, black fruits and leather.

928 HAIL THE CAB
      2005 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon
      Region: Sonoma - Alexander Valley
Dark berries, black cherry, and licorice on the nose… less exaggerated oak element despite the fact that this was aged in
95% new American barrels. Not particularly sweet, the mid-palate offers grip and lift with laid-back flavors of currant,
plum, and tobacco leaf. Finished with substantial, slightly dry tannins and good persistence.

An impressive effort for the vintage the 2004 Montrose possesses a deep ruby/purple-tinged color as well as a sweet nose
of black fruits intermixed with notions of smoke, cold steel, earth, subtle background wood. With excellent texture, a
sweet ripeness, medium to full body, and moderate tannin, it should drink well for fifteen plus years.

      Region: Napa Valley
      Robert Parker: 92 Points
If you missed out on Robert Mondavi's 1991 Cabernet Suavignon Reserve, try to find a few bottles of the sumptuously rich,
decadent, showy 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve that is about to be released. It is a sweeter, riper, more unctuously-
styled Cabernet. While it may lack some of the classicism of the 1991 Reserve, it is a super-rich, full-bodied, flamboyant,
unctuously-textured wine that should drink well for 20+ years.

941 2000 CHATEAU RAUZAN-SEGLA
      Region: Margaux, Bordeaux, France
      Wine Spectator: 95 Points
A dominant proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) has added an extra dimension to this super wine. Boasting intense
aromas of cigar boxes, cassis fruit, and perfumed floral and vanilla scents, the tight but compact palate gives the wine a
very classic feel. This should take some time to develop but will clearly be well worth the wait, as it undoubtedly
matures into a Margaux of great majesty. Drinking from 2011-2025.

942 2006 CYCLONE
      Region: Napa Valley
Estate grown and produced from the prestigious State Lane address in Yountville, Cyclone is a masterful blend of
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot that has recently been bottled, unfined and unfiltered, following a nearly
two year rest in fin French oak barrels. The striking blue image telegraphs the excitement inside the bottle a
multifaceted red wine sporting a silky mouth feel and broad range of flavors. The provenance of the grapes and the
winemaking team involved in the production of Cyclone are unsurpassed.

      Robert Parker: 94 Points
This dense ruby/purple-hued offering smells like the essence of raspberry jam intermixed with boysenberries and
blueberries. Exceptionally pure, with a layered mouthfeel and sweet tannin, this is undeniably the finest wine made by
Proprietor Stanislas Wallut since he purchased Domaine de Villeneuve in 1992.
