Michigan State Youth Soccer Association 1995 Girls Olympic Development Program
Dear ’95 ODP State Pool Players and Families,
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. My name is Dan Raben, and I am the head
coach for our state’s ’95 girls ODP age group. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to
work with such a talented group of players. This letter details important information regarding our
upcoming training sessions, so please read it thoroughly.

Players are required to bring the following to each session:
1. both tryout t-shirts
3. properly inflated soccer ball
4. water/sports drink
5. soccer cleats and/or indoor soccer shoes
Be prepared to start AT LEAST 15 MINUTES before the scheduled field time; players will
participate in a dynamic warm-up and will take the field immediately at the start of their scheduled
Please note the following:
Prior to certain sessions, players may be invited to “train up” with an older group,
including with players identified by the Region. These sessions are scheduled on the
same day as our age group training, but at different times. We appreciate your flexibility
in allowing this to happen.
There may be additional goalkeeper-specific sessions on the training dates but at
different times; goalkeepers are expected to attend both sessions on those dates when
goalkeeper training is scheduled. More information will be available at a later date.
The final weekend of training includes scrimmages. Prior to that weekend and following
the first weekend of training, players will be selected to participate in one or both of the
scrimmages. This information will be sent via email.
Players named to the state pool following tryouts in August are REQUIRED to attend all
scheduled winter sessions, even if they are injured. It is in every player’s best interest to
participate in all of the winter training sessions so the coaching staff has as many
opportunities to evaluate them as possible. If you are unable to participate in any of the
above training session, you must contact me ASAP.
PAYMENT AND PAPERWORK DUE DECEMBER 21

GIRLS ’95 ODP TRAINING
The ’95 ODP pool training sessions will provide the ’95 coaching staff the environment necessary
to identify potential players for both the “older” and “younger” teams. A pool of approximately 32
field players and four goalkeepers will be identified following the conclusion of winter training.
This pool of players will represent Michigan at the Region II camp in July. In addition to player
identification, the emphasis of these four training sessions will be on player development.
Training sessions will focus on individual ball skill, player movement off the ball, transition,
combination play and defending principles. Goalkeepers will receive both technical and tactical
I am pleased to commend our ’95 ODP staff coaches Sam Cheaib, Scott Forrester, Suzie Grech
and goalkeeper coach Dan Dalzochio for their commitment to player development as well as
player identification. These coaches are well qualified and I am sure that the ’95 girls ODP pool
of players will enjoy working with them. The coaching staff looks forward to working together as
they prepare the ’95 teams to represent Michigan at the Region II GIRLS ODP camp tentatively
scheduled for July 12-16, 2009 in DeKalb, Illinois. Region II information can be reviewed at
If you know of someone within the pool who does not receive e-mail or attachments, please pass
this information on to them. If you have an additional e-mail address you would like me to send
information to, please let me know.
Thank you for your support of the MSYSA’s Olympic Development Program.
