					JESUS

His Life Fulfilled the History of Israel (or the
History of Israel was a Type of the Life of Christ).
JOHN 5:39
 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have
eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

 Note: Few Christians realize the extent to which the
Scriptures testify of Jesus. Many of the people, places,
and objects of the Hebrew Scriptures are types of Christ,
and tell of His mission and His character. This series of
slides looks at just one aspect of this testimony; how in
His earthly life Jesus lived out the history of Israel.
THE FIRSTBORN SON

 Exodus 4:22. And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh,
Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my
    firstborn:

 Matthew 3:16, 17. And Jesus, when he was
baptized, went up straightway out of the water:
and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and
he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove,
and lighting upon him: 17And lo a voice from
heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I
    am well pleased.
THE SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS
 Exodus 1:22. And Pharaoh charged all his people,
saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river,
and every daughter ye shall save alive.

 Matthew 2:16.Then Herod, when he saw that he was
mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent
forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem,
and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and
under, according to the time which he had diligently
    enquired of the wise men.
OUT OF EGYPT

 Hosea 11:1 When Israel was a child, then I
loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

 Matthew 2:15. And was there until the death of
Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out
of Egypt have I called my son.
THROUGH THE WATERS
 Hebrews 11:29. By faith they passed through
    the Red Sea…

 Matthew 3:16. And Jesus, when he was
baptized, went up straightway out of the water:
and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him,
and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a
    dove, and lighting upon him.
INTO THE WILDERNESS
 Deuteronomy 8:2. And thou shalt remember all the
way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty
years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to
prove thee, to know what was in thine heart,
whether thou wouldest keep his commandments,
    or no.

 Matthew 4:1, 2. Then was Jesus led up of the
Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the
devil. 2And when he had fasted forty days and forty
nights, he was afterward an hungred.
TEMPTATION
 Deuteronomy 8:2. And thou shalt remember all the
way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years
in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee,
to know what was in thine heart, whether thou
wouldest keep his commandments, or no.

 Mark 1: 12,13. And immediately the Spirit driveth him
into the wilderness. 13And he was there in the
wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with
the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
THE MOUNTAIN
 Exodus 19:1-3. In the third month, when the children of
Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same
day came they into the wilderness of Sinai…And Moses
went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of
    the mountain.
 Matthew 5:1. And seeing the multitudes, he went up
into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples
came unto him: 2And he opened his mouth, and taught
    them, saying…
 Note: Israel was given the Law on Mt. Sinai. Jesus gave
the Gospel in the Sermon on the Mount.
THE LAW

 Exodus 20:13. Thou shalt not kill.

 Matthew 5:21,22. Ye have heard that it was
said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill…
22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry

with his brother without a cause shall be in
    danger of the judgment:
THE LAW 2
 Exodus 20:14. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

 Matthew 5:27,28. Ye have heard that it was said
by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit
adultery: 28But I say unto you, That whosoever
looketh on a woman to lust after her hath
committed adultery with her already in his heart.

 Note: Israel was given the Law; Jesus magnified it
    (See Matthew 5:17-19).
THE ROCK
 Exodus 17:6. Behold, I will stand before thee there
upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the
rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the
    people may drink.

 1 Corinthians 10:4. And did all drink the same
spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock
that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
 John 7:37. If any man thirst, let him come unto me,
  and drink.
THE BREAD OF LIFE
 Exodus 16:35. And the children of Israel did eat manna
forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did
eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land
    of Canaan.
 Matthew 14:19-21. And he commanded the multitude
to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and
the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed,
and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the
disciples to the multitude. 20And they did all eat, and
were filled: and they took up of the fragments that
remained twelve baskets full. 21And they that had eaten
were about five thousand men, beside women and
    children.
TWELVE SENT OUT

 Numbers 13:1. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2Send thou men, that they may search the land of

Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every
tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a
    ruler among them.

 Matthew 10:5. These twelve Jesus sent forth, and
commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the
Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye
    not:
TRIUMPHAL ENTRY
 2Samuel 6:14,15. And David danced before the LORD
with all his might; and David was girded with a linen
ephod. 15So David and all the house of Israel brought up
the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound
    of the trumpet.
 Matthew 21:8-11. A very large crowd spread their
cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the
trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that
went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
‘‘Hosanna to the Son of David!” ‘‘Blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord!” ‘‘Hosanna in the
    highest!”
REJECTED
 Isaiah 53:3. He is despised and rejected of men; a
man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we
hid as it were our faces from him; he was
despised, and we esteemed him not.
 Mark 8:31. And he began to teach them, that the
Son of man must suffer many things, and be
rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and
scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise
  again.
 Note: Jewish scholars believe Isaiah 53 refers to
  Israel.
LIFTED UP
 Numbers 21:8. And the LORD said unto Moses,
Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole:
and it shall come to pass, that every one that is
bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
 John 3:14,15. And as Moses lifted up the serpent
in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be
lifted up: 15That whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have eternal life.
 John 12:32. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth,
will draw all men unto me.
