(GCAR) was founded as the Albany Board of REALTORS® and the Rensselaer County Board of REALTORS® in the 1920's. In 1992 those two organizations merged to become GCAR. Over the next several years GCAR's membership grew as REALTORS® throughout the Region joined GCAR for its programs and services. Membership in GCAR passed the 3,600 level as we moved into 2008. Our Mission "The Greater Capital Association of REALTORS® strives to provide its members with programs and services which enhance the members' ability to successfully conduct their businesses in a competent and ethical manner, and to promote the public's right to use and transfer real property." Our Membership GCAR represents real estate professionals from Albany, Columbia, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren and Washington Counties in New York State. Programs GCAR is active in many aspects of its members' professional lives including: Professional Standards Education Legislative Activites Communications Community Relations Member Discount Programs Health Insurance Multiple Listing Service GCAR is a 50% shareholder in the Capital Region Multiple Listing Service, Inc. which currently services over 4,100 users affiliated with some 500 participating offices. CRMLS has partnered with the Times Union to provide the buying and selling public with limited access to active listing data through the Internet site known as HomePort.
