       This Submission Agreement and Copyright License is entered into by and between the
author or authors named below ("Author" or "Authors" ) and the University of Washington, an
institution of higher education with its principal campus in Seattle, Washington, United States of
America, on behalf of the Jackson School Journal of International Studies ("JSJIS").

1.    Grant and Retained Rights.

      1.1 Author or Authors hereby grant to JSJIS the right of first publication of the
      Contribution.

      1.2. In addition, Author or Authors hereby grant to JSJIS, during the full term of
      copyright and any extensions or renewals, the non-exclusive right to reproduce, distribute,
      adapt, and display the work in whole or in part worldwide in all languages and all media of
      expression now known or later developed, including without limitation print, audio, video,
      electronic, the Internet and the World Wide Web, and to license or permit others to do so.

      1.3 Except for the rights granted herein, Author or Authors retain all rights under
      copyright to the Contribution.

2.    Warranties.

      2.1 Author or Authors warrant that: (a) Author is the sole author, or Authors
      collectively are the sole authors, of the Contribution; (b) the Contribution is original; (c)
      the Contribution has not been previously published and is submitted only to the JSJIS; (d)
      Author or Authors have the legal standing to grant the rights contained in this Agreement;
      and (e) the Contribution does not contain any libelous or unlawful statements, and does not
      infringe the copyrights, privacy rights, or any other rights of others.

      2.2 If the Contribution contains material in which any third party claims copyright
      ("Third Party Content"), Author or Authors warrant that: (a) the Third Party Content has
      been explicitly identified and acknowledged in the Contribution; and (b) either (i) there are
      reasonable grounds to believe that the use of the Third Party Content is a fair use under
      copyright law, or (ii) permission has been obtained from the copyright owner for
      publication of the Third-Party Content in the Contribution.

      2.3 If the Contribution is based upon activities that have been sponsored or supported by
      an agency or organization other than the University of Washington, Author or Authors
      warrant that he/she/they have fulfilled any right of review or other obligations required by
      such contract or agreement.
