                 Bjørn Førde is the Director of the UNDP Oslo Governance Centre [from September
                 2005]. This follows his position as Resident Representative of UNDP and Resident
                 Coordinator of the UN in Botswana during 2003-2005. He graduated from University
                 of Copenhagen in 1975, with a degree in political science and international relations,
                 including development studies. Over the years 1975-2002 he worked for the Danish

                 Secretary General of the organisation. He served as a member of the Board of

                 Development 1998-2000, and also served on the Board of the Danish Refugee
                 Council. He was a member of the Steering Committee of Eurostep 1998-2002, and

                 Advisory Committee established by the then Administrator, Mark Malloch Brown. He
                 has participated in various international conferences [preparations for Rio 1992,
                 Global Food Summit 1996, Social Summit +5 in 2000] as NGO representative in the
                 Danish delegation. He has published more than 25 books on a broad variety of
                 development issues [specific countries, conditions of children, urbanisation, natural
                 resources, environment, social change, etc.], mostly for educational purposes, but

                Prisca Sandvik is a Research Associate for the Governance Indicators Project. She is
                primarily in charge of managing the revision, editing and translation of the
                project¡¦s publications, and providing research support in the preparation of a
                handbook on cross-country National Democracy/Government Assessment Networks.
                Previously Prisca has worked as a Programme Manager for the Southern African
                Resource Bank for Democracy and Human Rights (SAFDEM), managing a civilian
                standby roster for humanitarian missions. She moved to Norway and joined the
                Training for Peace Programme (TfP) at the Norwegian Institute for International
                Affairs (NUPI) as a Programme Assistant, coordinating programme activities with TfP
                partners in Africa. Prisca Sandvik holds a BA in Social Psychology and English and a
                Teaching degree. She has also taken several courses in Human Rights Monitoring
                conducted by the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) in collaboration with
