                                                       Hypnosis - Is it For You?

  Self-hypnosis is a fantastic way to begin creating positive changes in your life. You can use
hypnosis to help you stop smoking, to lose weight, to become more successful and to create
abundance in your life. You can use hypnosis to treble your reading speed, for positive thinking, and
even for help in moving on from divorce. And hypnosis has recently been used on school children
suffering from ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) as an alternative to drug therapy. You can apply
hypnosis to nearly any topic you can think of! In fact there is nearly nothing that hypnosis cannot help.

Of course, to get powerful, lasting and fairly rapid results in therapy, it is imperative that the methods
employed reach and affect the subconscious mind. This is because the subconscious houses the
emotions, imagination, memory, habits, intuition, and is the pathway to the superconscious.

In fact, hypnosis has been approved as a valid medical method since 1958 by the American Medical
Association, and currently it is being actively investigated by the National Institutes of Health; and
indeed practiced at the Mayo Clinic and at various medical schools from Stanford to Harvard, and is an
effective adjunct to conventional medicine even for illnesses up to and including diseases such as
cancer. So, you see hypnosis does have it's outstanding merits.

Of course everyone is not capable of going into a trance-like state in order to become hypnotized. In
fact, research indicates that about 5% of people will not be responsive to hypnosis. However, studies
also indicate that with practice people can learn to become responsive.

This 5% will resist the temptation to be put into a trance. Of course, if one is unable to relax and is
unable to accept auto-suggestion that person may not be a candidate for hypnosis. However, in most
cases if one were able to relax this could be a perfect alternative to over-the-counter drug therapy.

Hypnosis definitely will not make people do what they do not want to do. It will not turn people into
robotic automatons. But it does make them very receptive to suggestion. A hypnotic trance is no more
than a form of deep relaxation, allowing people to block out distractions and to focus their minds on the
important subject at hand.

If you are interested in giving hypnosis a try, it is recommended by experts that you find a therapist or
doctor certified by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, to ensure that practitioners are

appropriately trained. Or it is advisable to talk to your doctor first if you plan to use the therapy for
medical purposes, like controlling pain or anxiety. And remember that hypnosis is not a cure-all
procedure. People with acute pain who use hypnosis, for example, typically still need medication, just
less of it.

Further, for many, self-hypnosis has been a successful alternative in lieu of going to a hypnotherapist.
There are also many books, tapes, CD's and courses that will instruct in the area of self-hypnosis and
the methodologies used to perform hypnosis. If there is any area of your life that needs improvement
hypnosis could be a healthy alternative.
