Recently returned from a six month sabbatical travelling solo around the world. Travels
included South East Asia, Australasia and USA. Although this experience is not directly
career related I learned a lot about myself and other cultures. The experience has

MRM Worldwide – Senior Web Developer

Learned to adapt to the high-pressure, fast-paced environment of agency life. At MRM
progressed to be flexible, efficient and decisive, as well as to deliver high-quality
solutions on time and to budget. Projects varied hugely from small brochure sites to
integrated CMS and SOA solutions. Sometimes projects would be individual tasks, but
usually projects involved small development teams. Acted as lead developer for all
projects assigned to. All projects required frequent liaising with in-house staff from
disciplines such as design, motion graphics, project management and quality assurance,
and often with 3rd party providers and clients (acting as lead technical contact).
Responsible for delivering estimates, progress reports, and explaining technical
decisions and issues to non-technical staff and clients. Sites were often multi-lingual
and were required to provide strong performance for large numbers of users.
Whilst at MRM, became responsible for mentoring junior staff, assisting with recruitment
of new staff (interviewing, CV screening and creating technical tests), improving issue
management (bug tracking) and release management, running developer team
meetings and introducing new technologies to the team. Was offered the position of
development team leader before leaving the company. Considered by management not

In February 2008 attended the Artists in Residence program at Microsoft's research labs
in Seattle. Met developers of the Silverlight platform and became one of the first people
to develop with Silverlight 2.0.
Intel Where-to-Buy Site – a shopping comparison site within on the official Intel site,
which allows customers to compare prices of Intel products in 3rd party stores.
Implemented in ASP.NET 3.5, XSLT/XML and utilising SQL Server 2005. The application
gathers data from various sources such as price comparison vendors (e.g. Pricerunner)
feeds and APIs for 11 countries, analyses data using SSIS (SQL Server Integration
Services) and provides a high-performance cached site for users. The site serves
hundreds-of-thousands of requests a day. Architected, led development team and
liaised with 3rd party providers and client to complete a very successful project.
Love Ice Cream – a complex brochure site for Unilever (Walls ice cream). The site
integrates with Unilever's company-wide Mangolia CMS system using an SOA
architecture to provide up-to-date product range details. Led development team and
worked closely with Unilever's technology partners to complete project successfully.
BBC Action Network - Lead Client-Side Developer
October 2005 – December 2006
Whilst working at the BBC, greatly increased knowledge of web standards. As the BBC
website is one of the most popular worldwide, they adopt strict standards for
accessibility, cross-browser compatibility and adhere closely to W3C recommendations.
Became responsible for all aspects of client-side development (including XSLT, XML,
successfully put in place coding-standards, bug-tracking and release processes. Whilst
working at the BBC, completed a course in advanced CSS.
Chelsea Building Society - Analyst Developer
October 2004 – October 2005
Whilst working at Chelsea Building Society, quickly progressed to become the lead web
developer in the society. In this role became responsible for the majority of
development on internal and client-facing web projects, and was the first point of
contact for support queries. Completed training courses in ASP.NET and BizTalk 2004.
Spiral Software Limited - Lead Web Developer
January 2002 – October 2004
Whilst working at Spiral Software, progressed to become lead web developer of
enterprise level intranet applications for oil major clients. As lead web developer
oversaw development direction, team co-ordination, testing processes, and compliance
with release requirements. Also acted as a technical contact for major clients. Projects
were typically intranet applications for clients such as Shell, ChevronTexaco and BP.

An excellent broad-based degree course from a leading university, which covered many
theoretical and practical aspects of computing. Course highlights included Human-
Computer Interfaces, Database Systems, Software Engineering, Data Structures and
Algorithms, Computer Graphics, Functional Languages and Artificial Intelligence.
Throughout the course Java was the most prominent language, but experience was
gained in many other languages and protocols.
