As you consider further study options, it is important
to know what pathways may lead into your Deakin
         degree of choice.
A pathway is an alternative entry option into
university. Whether you have previously studied
at TAFE or MIBT, are currently in the workforce,
considering a transfer from another university, or
have just finished Year 12, this guide will help you
identify further study options. It will also outline
ways you may use prior study (whether complete or
incomplete), work experience, or internal pathways
to help you get where you want to go.
The job market is competitive, and likely to remain
so. Completing a university degree increases your
chances of earning a higher salary and opens up
a broader choice of occupations. It also provides
opportunities to study an area you are passionate
about, assists you in developing important networks
and gives you personal and intellectual satisfaction.
Most importantly a Deakin degree can fit around
your work and lifestyle by allowing you to study part
time, full time, on or off campus. This gives you a real
choice about where, when and how you study.
Turn your ideas into a reality. Act now and take your
         studies further with Deakin University.

            Catherine’s pathway through tAFe

As a young mother, Catherine wasn’t sure she could put the time or
energy into university. She was also unsure where her passions lay.
Thinking commerce or accounting would support
all future career or business endeavours, she enrolled in the
             Associate Diploma of Business (Accounting)
                      at The Gordon in Geelong.

Upon completion of the Associate Diploma, she applied to study
Commerce at Deakin’s Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus.

Catherine received seven credit points towards
                   Deakin’s Commerce course.

Catherine completed her degree at Deakin and then
the study required to become a Chartered Accountant.
Now working at LBW Chartered Accountants in Geelong,
she manages the superannuation team, looking after Catherine Welley

                   Michael’s pathway through MiBt

After studying at school in Geelong, Michael didn’t quite
get the score he needed to study Engineering at Deakin.
Instead he took up a place at MIBT at the
Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, providing him a pathway to Deakin.
Also, staying in Geelong enabled him to live at home
and continue his work as a lifeguard

With the assistance of MIBT, Michael transferred straight
into the second year of a Bachelor of Engineering
at Deakin’s Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus.

Depending on your previous study or work experience, you may
be able to gain Credit for Prior Learning for your Deakin degree.
This means reducing the number of units and/or time required to
                          complete your Deakin qualification.

For example, a Diploma of Building and Construction can
contribute up to 11 credit points (equivalent to one year of full‑

can contribute up to 8 credit points (equivalent to one year of
full‑time study) towards Deakin’s Bachelor of Nursing.
