                  SUBSTITUTE VEHICLE PROCEDURE GUIDANCE NOTES

                                                         TAXIS
1.    Consult with the Licensing Section, Corporate Services (TEL: 0141 287 4937 or 287 4505) to ensure that the
      proposed vehicle is an approved type of vehicle for use as a taxi.

2.    Lodge the application form together with the appropriate fee (which is non-refundable) and required
      documentation at the Licensing Section, 235 George Street, Glasgow G1 1QZ. You will be issued with a
      receipt which you will need in order to arrange for inspection of the substitute vehicle.

3. Before presenting the substitute vehicle for inspection you will require to :-
   (a) telephone the Inspection Centre Booking Line for an appointment on 0141 287 3326 between the hours
        of 8.00 am - 8.00 pm Monday to Sunday (except public and bank holidays). Please note that you will
        require to quote your receipt number and the type of inspection you require;
   (b) have the engine and underside of the vehicle thoroughly cleaned;
   (c) have a fire extinguisher of an approved type (constructed in compliance with BSEN 3-5 1996 and
        maintained as per BS50306 Part 3 1985) fitted in the vehicle; and
   (d) remove all seat covers.

***       Please note that if you fail to attend for your inspection appointment without having given the inspection
          centre at least 24 hours notice an additional charge of £45.00 will be made at the Inspection Centre.

4. WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE INSPECTION CENTRE, Motor Transport Section, Land and Environmental
   Services, 425 Polmadie Road, Glasgow G42 0PJ (to enter the Inspection Centre, turn left before the weigh
   bridge and follow the signs on the road) you must produce the receipt for your substitute vehicle application to
   the Examiner. You are required to pay the fee for inspection of the vehicle at this time.

     If the substitute vehicle passes inspection you will be issued with a pass certificate and in the case of a dual
     test an MOT certificate for which an additional fee of £20.00 is payable at the Inspection Centre. Should you
     require an M.O.T. Certificate you must book this at the same time as booking your inspection.

     If the substitute vehicle fails inspection you may be given a certificate to that effect and, subject to the terms of
     note 7 below, the vehicle should be presented for re-testing at the Inspection Centre within 14 days. A fee of
     £30.00 is payable at the Inspection Centre for this purpose.

5. WITHIN FIVE WORKING DAYS OF THE VEHICLE PASSING INSPECTION (this includes the date of
   inspection) you must call at the Licensing Section, Corporate Services, 235 George Street, Glasgow G1
   bringing with you:-

             (a) the inspection pass certificate for the substitute vehicle;
             (b) the current taxi licence; and
             (c) the certificate of insurance covering taxi use for the substitute vehicle which must be in the name
                 of either (i) the licence holder or (ii) the named day to day manager or (iii) all named
                 directors, partners etc. “trading as” the licence holder.

      If the inspection and insurance documents are in order, the substitute vehicle becomes licensed at this time.
      The taxi licence will be retained, amended and where appropriate, posted out to you.

      Please note that the substitute vehicle is not licensed and must not be used for taxi purposes until
      you satisfy the Licensing Authority that the vehicle has passed inspection and is properly insured.

6.    IF YOU FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE TERMS OF NOTE FIVE ABOVE YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO
      PRESENT YOUR VEHICLE FOR A FURTHER INSPECTION WHICH WILL RESULT IN ANOTHER
      INSPECTION FEE OF £45.00

7.    If you have not produced satisfactory inspection and insurance documents within 28 days from the date of
      the application to substitute the vehicle, then the application shall be deemed to have been withdrawn. In
      such a case, the licence will relate to the last vehicle named in the licence, and not in any circumstances to
      the vehicle specified as the substitute vehicle.
