Driving While Distracted Program coming to AHS Nearly 50 percent of teens admit to text messaging while driving -- an alarming statistic that now rivals driving and drinking in terms of danger and prevalence. The subject is getting a lot of attention in the media lately and we want to be certain that our students are fully informed of the consequences that a seemingly harmless text message can bring. The PTSA and AHS administration have partnered with the Shelby County Sherriff’s Department to present a program about Driving While Distracted on April 5 th for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. Freshmen will see the program in their Wellness Class. The schedule for April 5th will be as follows: 1st period: Sophomores 2nd period: Juniors 3rd period: Seniors Texting while driving is a problem that spreads much further than just the teen drivers in our community so in addition to the student presentation, we will also have one for PARENTS on Tuesday, March 30th at 6:30pm in the Mark Collins auditorium at AHS. This will give parents and students a common experience to talk about at home. For more information about teen texting and driving, visit this link on the national SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) web site: http://www.sadd.org/press/textingadvisory.htm We also urge parents and students to sign a Contract for Life which can be found on our PTSA website: www.arlingtonhighptsa.org.
