           Uniform Information Booklet

From September 2012 all Westlands students are required to wear the new school uniform.

We use an online company, ‘School Trends’, for school uniform items that are exclusive to
Westlands, as they offer a high quality contemporary product which is competitively priced.
Most of the uniform, such as black trousers or skirts, white collared shirts and blazers can be
purchased from a retailer of your choice.

If you are experiencing problems receiving your uniform from School Trends, please contact
them directly regarding your order and not the school.

You can contact them using the following:

Email: westlandsparents@schooltrends.co.uk

We expect all students to wear their new uniform correctly with their top shirt button
done up beneath their tie.

Rationale & Purpose
Our uniform policy is set to reflect a practical approach to achieving a standard of uniform
that is both functional and smart. It is designed to achieve equal opportunities wherever
possible, to ensure that the students enjoy a corporate identity, to provide safe and functional
clothing and footwear and to minimise any personal risk to the health and safety to students
and staff. The standards set in a School and in particular the standard of uniform does much
to enhance the learning environment for the students. The atmosphere created through the
compliance of students to this dress code will do much to set the tone of the School and will
greatly help to encourage a good work ethic for all students.

Rules and Expectations
All students are expected to wear their uniform correctly and with pride. Ties must worn correctly with
the top shirt button done up. All items of clothing must be clearly marked with the owner’s name –
please check regularly that the name is still visible.

It should be noted that the School cannot accept any responsibility for loss of property, or injury
incurred, by students having inappropriate dress, footwear or jewellery.

 Skirts - Skirts should be a style that does not restrict movement nor cause embarrassment to
either the wearer or other members of the School Community. A guide for their length would
be between 5 cms above or below the wearer’s knee. Shorts, mini-skirts and culottes are not
     acceptable at any time.

 Footwear - Shoes must be of a safe and suitable design to ensure the safe movement of
students around the site and their completion of their academic studies. The footwear must be
wholly black, waterproof and of a style that is not likely to endanger the wearer whilst in the
School. No open toed shoes, sling backs or sandals or flip-flops are permitted in any weather.

 Face and Head Coverings - For reasons of security and health and safety no hats, hoods or
face veils should be worn in the School. Head scarves and turbans may be worn on religious
grounds only with prior permission obtained in writing from the appropriate House Leader.

 Jewellery – Students are permitted to wear a maximum of one stud or small sleeper earring in
each ear and one finger ring of plain design. All jewellery must be removed for practical and
PE lessons. Necklaces and chains are not to be worn and facial jewellery is not permitted.

 Hair - If longer than collar length hair must be tied back in situations where it could cause a
danger to the individual or others such as PE and other practical lessons.

 Specialist Clothing - Some subjects will require specialist clothing such as aprons, laboratory
coats and goggles. When directed by the Staff of Westlands School students are to wear the
     required specialist clothing.

       fee of £5:00 per order.
