LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES (October 28, 2004 Approved by AC) In case it is determined that an emergency condition exists that might be a safety concern to students and/or staff, we will immediately go into a lockdown situation. The signal will be an all-call with the message: “May I have your attention please? We are immediately implementing a lockdown” There are two lockdown scenarios, but we will always start with the first: I. LOCK AND SECURE ALL CLASSROOMS FIRST Lockdown Checklist 1. Move to a secure spot. All students and adults are to stay in their present location under the direct supervision of the adult in charge Students who are walking by themselves need to go to the nearest classroom. They will be accounted for in the attendance count. If you are in transit to another point, please complete your movements Students and staff in modular classroom (band/instrumental/child care) are to wait there for further instructions. For those outside, we will ring the bell to bring them inside. 2. Lock all doors Lock all doors. (Do not let anyone leave the room. No bathroom breaks until you hear otherwise.) LRC lock exterior and LRC double doors to north and south of LRC; office staff lock atrium; post signs on atrium door, instructional wing, and hallway, Teacher in room 4 will lock north double doors, custodian secure MP and gym, covered area hallway, loading dock doors and report to office. Close all blinds. Cover hall door with the sign hanging on the door. Put the green side out if there are no problems in your room. Put the red side out if there is an emergency in your room. Take attendance using class list. If you have a student from another class, include that information in your attendance report, and also e-mail the child's classroom teacher. E-mail the office staff (email@example.com) and say in the subject line “Room ** ok or Room** missing students (then list them below) ***SUBSTITUTES CALL (line 1) 1158 or 1159 with the information above. Wait for instructions The adult in charge should explain to the students that an emergency has happened in the office, and we are asking the help of all people to stay put to avoid confusion and provide safety until the matter is cleared up. Under no circumstance is any student to leave the room unless requested by the adult in charge. No bathroom breaks or other exits allowed until word comes stating so. Do not dismiss any students or admit any parents to your room. II. LOCK AND SECURE BUILDING (if announced, and only after all classrooms are secured) 1.
