Old Business -
Minutes approved for Oct 2011.
I enjoyed meeting so many of you at our PTO open house on October 4th. Amanda Rambo did a great job organizing our
meeting. Nicole Roberts led over 160 people in a volunteer orientation. Wow! Thank you Nicole. Led over 400 people so far
this year in volunteer orientation.
I am pleased to announce our spring fair chairperson, Kessa Thompson. She is joined by co-chairs Courtney Gregory,
Annette Ready, Joanna Sztuk, and Stephanie Whitman. Thank you for your leadership. The children & community enjoy this
fun filled event.
Gratitude continues to Maureen Bondurant who is our new enrichment chair. She is joined by co-chairs Laurie Bond and
Sandi Travlos. Their efforts will make enrichment possible this year.
Thank you to Tiffany Sheya for running our Spirit Wear campaign - over $4,400 has been ordered for Spirit Wear. The BES
attire is always a hit. Kudos continue to Beth Capps for all of her work with promotions. Those box tops, labels for
education, and bonus card BES designations add up to thousands for our school. Thank you to Suzanne Marshall for her
efforts leading the Destination Imagination crew and Becky Johnston for running chess club.
Renee Baron did an outstanding job with our Cherrydale Farms Fundraiser. Due to your generosity, over $11,000 was
raised for BES. Funds raised support our teachers and students in so many wonderful ways including new student chairs,
novels, playground balls, school wide cultural art assemblies, and extras for the classroom.
Thank you to Charlotte Wallace and her team for creating the PTO directory. Our beautification chair, Nancy Shoemaker,
replaced the worn bird bath out front and made the entrance even more inviting. Thank you also to Gwen Davis for being
our CAC representative.
We welcome Jennifer Witten (beautification shadow), Lauri Orders (hospitality chair), and Andrea Sarchiapone (book fair
shadow) to our PTO committee chairs.
Congratulations to volunteer of the month, Kira Gleitz . Kira works tirelessly on our yearbook & created the lovely bulletin
board in the foyer.
The PTO is still in search of a co-chair volunteer coordinator, a chair for career night, and a co-chair for fundraising.
New Business -
The PTO is sponsoring family movie night on Friday, November 11th featuring Rio (rated G). Admission is free. Bottled
water, popcorn, and candy will be available for $1.00 each. Doors open at 6:30pm and the movie begins at 6:45pm. All
children must be attended by an adult over the age of 18. Children may wear their pajamas and bring pillows, sleeping bags,
and blankets. Seating will be on the floor (chairs are not permitted). Girl Scout troop 4924 will be collecting new pajamas
for Casey Cares Kami's Jammies which provides new sleepwear to pediatric patients at hospitals in our surrounding area.
There will also be a bin provided for those wanting to donate gently used pajamas or warm clothing to local children in
American Education Week is 11/14 till 11/18. One or two volunteers needed - Tues, Wed and Thurs for 8:15am till 10:45am
- Kessa volunteered on Tuesday. If need another Kim Fromal can help.
Daryl Cooke will be leading the Candy Buy Back program. The money received will support Smile Train and the Kindness
Committee. Bin goes to the teachers - candy to be sent in plastic bag.
The PTO has found out the we no longer need to support the Discovery Ed program for our teachers - the county will be
supporting moving forward. This will add $500 back into our yearly budget.
Mrs. Baicar has asked the PTO to support the Broadneck Mentoring program by providing $20 per child in the program to
the mentor - $300. This would support any supplies and special treats provided by the mentor. Until recently Ms. Baicar
didn't realize that mentors were spending so much as a volunteer. It needs to be decided if we are going to make this a line
item in the budget or if it should come out of the Kindness Committees budget. Considering the fact that we no longer
need to support Discovery Ed - it is recommended that we do not use the Kindness Committee budget. Voted on and PTO
will support moving forward. Gretchen will add to the budget.
