 Description

Human growth hormone, or hGH, is used clinically to spur growth in children who are
unusually short because they have a growth hormone deficiency. However, it is useless
for a short but otherwise normal 25-year old to request hGH treatment from a physician.
Think about how hGH functions in bone growth and why it might be useless in an adult.

While not effective for bone growth in adults, hGH is often used by athletes and
bodybuilders to bulk up or enhance performance. It appears that hGH is working
differently in these cases. If hGH is produced by the body normally and is helpful in
treating some diseases and disorders, why might it be bad for an athlete to take it?
In your post, consider possible reasons for this, and explain your thinking about the
possible negative effects of intentional or nonmedical use of hGH. State your position on
the use of hGH in sports.
