Evonik Industries AG (Evonik) is active in the areas of specialty chemicals, coal power, renewable energy and real estate.
It manufactures chemicals for the automotive, pharmaceuticals, cosmetic, plastic and rubber industries, among others. It
also focuses on designing, building and operating power plants worldwide. The company specializes in the production of
electricity from coal and renewable energy sources, and on engineering and consulting on the design, building and
operation of power plants across the world. As a part of its real estate business, it owns, maintains and leases more than
60,000 housing units. The company operates in several countries across the Americas, Europe and Asia, and is
headquartered in Essen, Germany.

1.2   Business Description

Evonik is a German-based company operating in the areas of specialty chemicals, coal power, renewable energies and
real estate. The company manufactures chemicals for the automotive, pharmaceuticals, cosmetic, plastics and general,
agriculture and rubber industries, among others. It also focuses on designing, building and operating power plants
worldwide, and the production of electricity from coal and renewable energy sources.

The company‘s operations can be categorized into three divisions: Chemicals, Energy and Real estate.

The chemicals division comprises six sub-divisions: industrial chemicals, inorganic materials, consumer specialties, health
& nutrition, coatings & additives and performance polymers.
The industrial chemicals sub-division supplies products to the agro-chemical, chemical, plastics and paper industries. The
inorganic materials sub-division specializes in designing inorganic particles and their surface properties. It principally
serves the rubber and tire industry, producers of polycrystalline silicon and coatings, printers of polycrystalline silicon and
coatings, and the printing industry. The consumer specialties sub-division supplies chemicals to the consumer goods
industry for use in cleaning agents, the personal care sector and hygiene products. The health and nutrition sub-division
manufactures and markets essential amino acids for animal nutrition, active ingredients for the pharmaceuticals industry
and catalysts. The coatings & additives division produces functional polymers and high-quality monomer specialties for
the paints and coatings, adhesives and sealants industries. The performance polymers division manufactures and
markets a wide range of advanced materials and its applications technology expertise is highly valued in the market. In
FY2010, the Chemical business division accounted for 80.26% of the company‘s total revenue.
