					Reading Aloud to Children Workshop for
Parents
OBJECTIVE
The workshop aims to help parents and other adults learn why and how to read aloud
to children of all ages. By reading aloud to children, we can help to improve children’s
reading skills, build their knowledge and increase their love for reading. At the same
time, we forge bonds with the children.

COURSE OUTLINE
The workshop leader will explain why to read aloud to children and discuss how to
select books for reading aloud. The main part of the workshop focuses on how to
involve children as we read aloud to them. This includes connecting the book to
children’s lives, discussing the book with them and helping to build their language
skills.

Parents and other adults who love children

Geylang East Community Library, Lecture Hall, 3rd Floor

WORKSHOP LEADER
Dr George Jacobs was a Language Specialist at RELC for eight years. Currently, he
works with MOE Singapore and educational institutions around Singapore and
internationally. George is the co-author of Read Aloud Asia, published by Times. Dr
Jacobs has presented at many conferences locally and internationally.

COURSE FEE
S$50.00 per person includes light refreshment.
S$40.00 for Early Bird registration by 30 May 2006
Payment is to be made in Singapore Dollars, by cheque or bank draft, payable to “NBDCS”.
Fees paid are non-refundable but transferable. Requests for substitution must be made a
week before the course commences.
