Narrator 1: Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce our hero, Prince Rama, banished from his royal palace
to live in this forest. Rama is no ordinary prince. He is God himself come to live on earth in human form
Narrator 2: Rama did not live alone in the forest. His wife, Sita, and brother, Lakshmana, chose to share
his exile. Here comes Rama, with his bow and arrow, hunting in the forest. Now here comes Lakshmana,
Sita’s brother, running after him. Look Sita is waving to them!
Narrator 3: Rama, Lakshmana and Sita were happy living in the forest. Until, one day….
A clash of cymbals
Narrator 3: Can you see the demon, Ravana, hiding behind the trees watching Sita?
Narrator 4: The evil demon, Ravana, sees Sita in the forest. He thinks she is very beautiful and he wants
her for one of his many wives.

Narrator 1: Ravana waves his hands casting a spell to summon The Golden Deer. (Golden deer comes on).
Narrator 2: Sita tries to get the deer to come to her but is too frightened and it runs away!
Narrator 3: Rama and Lakshmana see the deer, and run after it. (Sita is left all alone).
Narrator 4: Ravana was very clever. He cast a spell to make the Golden deer appear. Sita wanted the
deer for a pet and so Rama and Lakshmana run off the catch it for her.
Narrator 1: Sita is left all alone at the mercy of the demon king Ravana.
Narrator 2: Ravana casts another spell to make Sita follow him. She tries to stay but the spell is too
strong and she has to follow him. (Sita sees the demon and very slowly turns towards him and slowly
approaches him. As she walks jewellery needs to be dropped – from above).
Narrator 3: Every few steps, Sita drops some jewellery so that Rama and Lakshmana can see where she is
going and follow her. (As Sita leaves the stage, Rama and Lakshmana come on from the other side).
Narrator 4: Look here comes Rama and Lakshmana. They are exhausted after a long hunt and haven’t
caught the deer. They know they have been tricked. They look around. Where is Sita?
Narrator 1: Rama and Lakshmana look for Sita everywhere. They become more and more worried.
Finally, they realise she has gone. Rama looks very upset and Lakshmana comforts him.

(Hanuman, the monkey general, and his army of monkeys enter and kneel before Rama)
Narrator 2: Here comes Hanuman, the monkey general, and his army of monkeys to kneel before Rama.
Hanuman, the monkey general, promises to help Rama find Sita.
Narrator 3: Hanuman divides his army and sends them off to search for Sita. (Groups go off stage in
different directions and come back, a group at a time, shaking their heads). Hanuman sends his monkeys
to search for Sita. One group goes North. They search everywhere, but can’t find her.
Narrator 4: One group goes west. They search and search but cannot find her.
Narrator 1: Another group goes east. They look everywhere but Sita is nowhere to be seen.
Narrator 2: The last search party go south. As they go, they find pieces of jewellery. They pick these
up until they finally reach the tip of India and the sea.
Narrator 3: Over the sea lies the island if Lanka where Ravana lives. Could Sita be there? (Two search
party monkeys run back to Rama carrying the jewellery).
Narrator 4: Rama recognises the jewellery as Sita’s. So Hanuman sets off for the island to see if he can
Scenery will need to be changed for Scene 2 Ravana’s palace.
(There are demons guarding the palace. Sita sits alone looking unhappy!)
Narrator 1: Here, in Ravana’s palace on the island of Lanka is Sita. She is really hoping that Rama will
find her before Ravana forces her to marry him. Listen I can hear something….
(Hanuman creeps on the stage, slips past the guards and goes to Sita)
Narrator 2: Sita is really pleased to see him. Oh no! One of the demons has seen them and Hanuman is
captured. (A chase needs to happen first. Ravana comes on).
Narrator 3: Ravana is ordering his demons to set fire to Hanuman’s tail. (Stick fire streamers to
Hanuman’s tail. Hanuman jumps in the air and waves his tail around!)
Narrator 4: Fire, Fire! Hanuman has set the palace on fire. (Demons run on with streamers which they
wave. A hose appears from the monkey army).
Narrator 1: The demons are trying to put the fire out!
Narrator 2: Hanuman is a cool customer. He looks at the panic and then coolly blows out the fire on his
tail and escapes! (To the side of the stage, Rama and Hanuman will have a conversation)
Narrator 3: Hanuman returns to Rama. Now that Rama knows the Sita is a prisoner on Lanka, he was
determined to rescue her. A huge army gathers to fight the demon army and rescue Sita.
Narrator 4: Rama, Lakshmana and Hanuman are leading the monkey army towards Ravana and his demon
army. The monkeys are waving their swords, while the demons wave their arms, casting spells. The
monkeys, led by Hanuman, are bravely advancing towards the demons. Rama and Lakshmana fight demons
with their bows and arrows.
Narrator 1: All the demons are dead, except for Ravana. Rama goes to Ravana with his bow and arrow.
They circle each other. Suddenly, Rama aims his bow and arrow at Ravana’s heart. Ravana clutches his
chest and falls down dead. Everybody cheers.
Narrator 2: Ravana, the evil demon is dead. Sita is rescued. Good has triumphed over evil!
