Expression of interest for
Co- productions, shared usage and venue hire at Northcote Town Hall during
Melbourne International Comedy Festival 30 March – 24 April 2011
Please note: this is not a registration form for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, but
an application for a performance space at the Northcote Town Hall.

Northcote Town Hall will again become a participating venue for Melbourne International Comedy
Festival north of the city hosting a busy bar and featuring a broad range of quality programming
attracting all ages and interests. The venue has a strong branding with independent and alternative arts
performance and audience. Only 10 mins from the CBD a tram stop at the door and with Northcote High
Street boasting a range of dining options makes this venue a quality option.
We have two studio spaces that are perfect for cross/platform arts experiences seating 80 to 120 people,
a Main Hall that seats up to 440 and a Civic Square that can host a Spiegeltent or tent /storage container
We are seeking expressions of interest for our program including shows that might require some
assistance with production and marketing. Performers are invited to apply for sole use or shared usage
of the spaces for performances at rates that are affordable and discounted for the festival season.

Venue Hire; - Costs per individual performance are reduced and discounted during the festival.
Venue cost can be shared between a number of performers and shows. If you are having difficulty with
costs please speak to Venue management regarding other options e.g. partnerships.

Studio 1 Hire Fee $800 (per week) includes a seating bank sound and lights
Studio 2 Hire Fee $500 (per week) includes a seating bank and lights

Please note: these costs do not include the Melbourne International Comedy Festival registration
fee. You must also register with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. A registration

This is festival time and there may be some venue noise bleed from adjoining spaces check with
venue manager if this will be a problem with your performance.
One SHARED dressing room between Studios 1 and 2 (it is unisex and has a sink). Please note
there is limited dressing room space, and large casts cannot be supported. There is no dressing
room for the Main Hall; however space can be made available.
A general lighting rig. Lighting stock is divided between studios 1 and 2 and is included in room
hire fee. Total lighting stock is listed in the Technical specifications document available on the
Northcote Town Hall website. There is no significant lighting stock available for the Main hall
except 1 x 2k follow spot and 2 winch up lighting trees. Any lights not required in Studios 1 and 2
may be used in the Main hall.
A lighting desk is available for each studio not the Main Hall.
A list of equipment is available at affordable hire rates including grand piano and portable sound
system. Bookings are essential.
Scheduled rehearsal and tech run times (min 4 hours per group, more as feasible)
Bump in technical support (4 hours max)
If required, technical support costs are $44 per person per hour (4 hour minimum) this fee maybe
shared between performances.
Marketing and Publicity
Northcote Town hall will produce marketing material including press release, e-flyer and e-
newsletter and distribute throughout its networks.
A dedicated page on the Northcote Town Hall website will be created, with links to your web
pages or MySpace pages if appropriate.
Northcote Town hall will operate a 24hrs box office service including online, telephone and at the
door sales. Credit card, cash sales and group invoicing can be accommodated.
A minimum of 50% to 100% of ticket stock is required to be sold through Northcote Town Hall.
This service includes 24 hrs on line web access, phone bookings from Mon to Fri 9am – 5pm and
at the door box office. Internal ticket agent fees for Northcote Town Hall are $2.35per ticket for
