ARC Industries
Assembly, Packaging & Distribution

ARC Industries is more than a successful assembly,
packaging and distribution company, which provides
income to other Evansville ARC programs. It also offers
225 individuals with disabilities meaningful employment
and the opportunity to earn a paycheck. One reason for
ARC Industries’ success is the placement of "satellite"
sites at six local companies.

At each of these sites, ARC Industries manages their own
production lines and hires their own employees, many of
whom have disabilities. Through these partnerships, ARC
Industries is able to expand its operations, and individuals
with disabilities are able to work in the community.

Due to the long waiting list, Skip Burch had to wait for over a year to be enrolled into the Adult Day Services
Program. But thanks to the money raised through NAP Credits, Skip was one of 10 individuals who were moved
off the waiting list in 2001. Now, Skip is learning communication, social, and problem-solving skills; he even
earns a paycheck sorting hangers for a local uniform company. Since Skip has attended Evansville ARC’s Adult
Day Services, his life has been richly fulfilled. “Before Skip came to ARC, he lacked purpose. Now he has good
things in his life that give it meaning,” said his sister, Cheryl. “He’s got a reason to feel good about himself.”

In an effort to fulfill the need of greater access to the best practices in early childhood education, early
intervention and special education for Evansville area children, ages 0 to 5, both with and without
developmental disabilities, Evansville ARC began the Best Practices in Early Education for Children
Project in 2002 with a $156,000 grant from the Welborn Foundation. Because the most rapid period of
brain development occurs in the first few years of life, early childhood education, or lack thereof, has a
tremendous impact on a child’s ability to comprehend and learn during his/her academic career.
"If we work on marble, it will perish; if on brass, time will efface it;
if we rear up temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon
immortal minds and imbue them with principles, with the
just fear of God and the love of our fellow men, we engrave on
those tablets something that will brighten to all eternity." When Daniel
Webster spoke these words I wonder if what he had in mind is what
the Evansville ARC team of volunteers, board members, donors, and
staff accomplished during the 2001-2002 fiscal year.

Our Foundation team gave of their hearts and souls by inviting many

The 2001-2002 fiscal year was an exciting one for Evansville ARC.
During the past year as a result of the leadership of Margaret Boarman
and the efforts of her staff, we saw our programs evolve and grow so as to
better serve children and adults with developmental disabilities.

The Child Life Center staff, with a grant from the Welborn Foundation,
made significant advancements in implementing the Best Practices in

successfully pursued and secured several new manufacturing contracts
and continued to develop strategic partnerships with local companies to
ensure employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. In
addition, ARC Industries again met its goal of providing substantial
financial support to other Evansville ARC programs.

With my first year as governing Board Chairman having passed, I am
prouder than ever to serve in a volunteer capacity for such an outstanding
organization. I trust that as you read the pages of this annual report you
will see values that cannot be expressed solely in financial terms but in
the opportunities for independence that were created for individuals with
                              disabilities as well.
                           Dear Friends of Evansville ARC:

This annual report gives us opportunity to share with the community
how Evansville ARC is fulfilling its mission in support of persons with
developmental disabilities. The body of this report outlines ways in
which we do this. The annual report is also an avenue through which we
can keep you abreast of future directions.

During 2002, Evansville ARC embarked on an extensive soul searching
process. We asked for and received feedback from individuals with
disabilities, their families and guardians, community leaders, board
members and staff. We researched best practices around the country. We
worked with leaders in the field. From these and other sources, we
     Margaret D. Boarman
gleaned lots of information. Our challenge now is to refine our vision
and mission and to develop a strategic plan congruent with that vision
and mission. The Board of Directors and the staff at Evansville ARC are
                           committed to this challenge.

In December, I will be retiring as president of Evansville ARC. For over
12 years, I have had the awesome privilege of leading this great
