Boy Scout Outdoor Code
Be clean in my outdoor manners
I will treat the outdoors as a heritage. I will take care of it for myself and others. I will keep my trash and garbage out of lakes, streams, fields, woods, and roadways.
Be careful with fire
I will prevent wildfire. I will build my fires only where they are appropriate. When I have finished using a fire, I will make sure it is cold out. I will leave a clean fire ring, or remove all evidence of my fire.
Be considerate in the outdoors
I will treat public and private property with respect. I will use low-impact methods of hiking and camping.
Be conservation minded
I will learn how to practice good conservation of soil, waters, forests, minerals, grasslands, wildlife, and energy. I will urge others to do the same.

Stuff to Make to Get Ready for Camp
These crafts can easily be made at a meeting to get campers excited about camping. Emergency S’more kits: Scouts can bring these to camp with them in case they get hungry late at
night, or on a hike!
Materials Needed:
Clear plastic jewelry bags Mini marshmallows Teddy Graham cookies Chocolate chips Matches Toothpicks Printed instructions Stapler
Instructions:
Put out each of the ingredients in bowls. Each person should put one marshmallow, one chocolate chip, two teddy grahams, one toothpick, and one match in a bag. They should close their bag, and staple an instructions sheet to the outside of the bag. You can find a copy of the instructions template at the end of this book.
Bug Suckers! A fun way to collect bugs and learn about nature.
Materials needed:
Empty pop bottles Clear plastic tubing Small pc of Screen Rubber band Hot glue Drill
Instructions: Drill a hole in the bottom of a bottle; drill another hole through the bottle cap. Cut plastic piping so each piece is about 6 inches long. Insert a piece of piping into each end. Use hot glue around the edges if not a snug fit in the hole. Attach small piece of screening with rubber band around the inside tube attached to the cap. Screw cap on and begin sucking up bugs.
“Hello from Camp” Postcards: Make postcards that campers can send home from camp.
Materials needed:
Cardstock paper (cut to size of postcards) Pictures of camping scenes Stamps Glue/paste Markers or crayons You can find some sample pictures at the end of this booklet.
Instructions:
Glue pictures, draw something, use magazine pictures or decorate the back of the postcard in some way that reflects camping. You could even write the name of the camp you will be attending on it somewhere. Place a stamp in the upper right corner of the postcard on the other side. Below the stamp, write the address of the person you will send the card to. Leave the left side blank for your message you will write once you get to camp. The Den Leader or Cub Master can hold on to the cards until the Pack goes to camp. Once at camp, Scouts can write their message and send the postcards.
Get Them Moving
A Game to Play
Change Campsites: This game is played with a fairly large group sitting on chairs in a circle.
pants switch chairs based on words taped to the back of their chairs. Partici-
Materials needed:
Chairs Paper to write your camping words Tape Some good camping words to use: (you are
not limited to only these words)
How to play:
1) Arrange chairs in a circle, there should be enough chairs for everyone in the group but one person (for example, if you have 10 people there should be 9 chairs). 2) On the backrest of each chair tape your camping wordsthere should be at least two of every word. For larger groups you could repeat words more than once (for example, write “tent” 3 times instead of 2) 3) One person stands in the middle and calls out one of the words. Every person who is sitting on a chair with that word has to get up and switch chairs. The person in the middle will try to get to a chair before the others. The person who does not find a chair will now be in the middle. The rules repeat with the new person in the middle. 4) There is no end to the game, you can stop playing when ever the group feels like stopping.

Time to Pick Dates and Camps for the Summer
Make sure to leave time at the end of your meeting to talk about all of the different camp programs. This can be a time where parents and Scouts can ask questions and decide when and where they want to go to camp. You will want to have the current camp information, dates and fees available.
