They each agreed to mentor one entrepreneur but some are mentoring up to six each. THE PROGRAM • • • • • • • Each Master Entrepreneur will read a one-page questionnaire that participants will complete before the event Master Entrepreneurs will spend a speed-dating half hour with each table of participants The first five minutes will be spent on introductions, the next 15 minutes by the Master Entrepreneur on their business journey, the last 10 minutes on questions Participants will be pushed for time in this edgy event that will simulate real-life situations and hone an entrepreneur’s abilities and their capacity to represent themselves and their businesses Participants will complete a survey and indicate who they would like to mentor them A one-hour stand-up networking lunch will generate further synergies Masters are obliged to mentor at least one participant, will decide within a fortnight who this will be and contact them for a two-hour session This event is proudly assisted by Business and Industry Development, ACT Government. “Canberra is one big incubator. Well done MAW Action.” – Master Entrepreneur Murray Rankin MASTER ENTREPRENEURS: Julian Tertini, Founder of Freedom Furniture and Fantastic Furniture MD Julian Tertini has 30 years experience in the retail industry and was a founding shareholder and an Executive Director responsible for retail operations and product development of Freedom Furniture which during his time there grew from one store to a national chain. In 1996 following the expiration of a non-compete period associated with the sale of Freedom Furniture, Julian purchased the assets of Fantastic Furniture with two partners. The company was in administration and consisted of 11 stores. In 1999 Fantastic Holdings was listed on the ASX, and today consists of 5 retail brands with a total of 113 stores and 3 manufacturing and supply divisions. Julian has been Managing Director of FHL since 1999. In addition to his furniture industry interests, he has invested in a wide range of businesses ranging from a chain of coffee shops to technology companies, property development, a vineyard and winery. Julian was named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2003. Brand Hoff, Director of National ICT Australia and founder of TOWER Software Brand started TOWER Software as a Canberra based company and grew it nationally and then internationally to become a significant software package developer. TOWER was purchased by HP in 2008 proving it is possible to do it form Canberra and to exit via atakeover / merger. He led the development of the Australian Bibliographic Network for the National Library of Australia and established the commercial division of CSC in Canberra. Brand has been inducted as an Australian Export Hero and a Fellow of the ACS. Anne O’Donnell, Australian Ethical Investment Managing Director Australian Ethical Investment (AEI) has, under Anne’s watch grown from an $80 million to a $530 million company. AEI is an independent boutique fund manager specialising in ethical investment. Anne, who has almost 30 years of experience in the finance industry, is a director of the Investment and Financial Services Association and Community CPS Australia. Bill Mobbs, ITL Limited founder Bill, a pioneer in the protection of healthcare workers, founded ITL Limited, a multi national medical devices company in 1994. ITL has been listed on the ASX since 2003, employs 380 people in Australia, Malaysia, US and Europe and sells its products in over 35 countries. Bill has a wealth of experience in creating and commercialising IP, he is the author of 15 families of patents and ran a comprehensive portfolio of patents, trademarks and registered designs whilst at the helm of ITL. He is a Director of one of Canberra’s most recognized technology commercialisation companies, Seeing Machines Limited, which is listed on the London AIM stock market and is also a Director of the not for profit National Health Sciences Centre. Bill is passionate about business and growing enterprises. Marcus St John Dawe, internet pioneer and serial entrepreneur Marcus is a serial entrepreneur who sold his eDIME internet agency for $10 million just before the dot-com crash in 2000. He has developed ventures in software, internet services, retail music and software, ski resort development, music production, wireless technology, health networks, not-forprofits and projects of national significance. Marcus believes there are defined paths to follow to develop the value of businesses. He is passionate about mentoring youth and promoting the ACT region as a global village. Marcus is the CEO of the GreenMag Group, a carbon capture and storage group.
