HYES PTO MEETING MINUTES Highland and Yalesville Elementary Schools Date: December 14, 2010 Time: 7PM Meeting Place: Highland Cafeteria Meeting Type: General Monthly Meeting Attendees: See Attached Sheet Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:08 PM Welcome: Cory DeMaio welcomed all parents and faculty to the meeting. Executive Reports: Presidents Report: Cory DeMaio requested that the Nature’s classroom committee email pertinent info to the board to keep them in the loop. The Natures Classroom is a separate entity from the PTO. Vice Presidents Report: Patty Conte requested someone to chair Movie Night in January or February. Secretaries Report: A motion to accept the November 9th PTO Meeting Minutes was made and the minutes were accepted. Treasurers Report: The Income and Expense Report and the Funds Available Report were reviewed. Kelly Iannone stated that monies from the old PTO accounts would be transferred into the HYES account. Teachers Representatives Report Highland Elementary: Allison Denya requested pencils / cards for the students for birthdays. The Sunshine Committee will provide. Mary Nacaratto is the Sunshine Committee Chair for both schools. Allison will make copies of the notices so teachers can copy. Yalesville Elementary: Katie Len stated that auditions for the play were last week and that 80 children tried out. The 5th grade teachers have decided that the year end event will be at Mountain Ridge this year and the students will have a field trip to Sturbridge at the end of the year. A 5th grade parent committee will need to be formed to raise monies for the Mountain Ridge event. Donna Button will send an email blast. Committee Reports: Craft Fair: The craft fair was a success. Holiday Store: This event well however was in need of volunteers. Inventory needed to be borrowed from Highland for Yalesville. Gift Card Fundraiser: $1,500 profit for December. This fundraiser will be run again in February and May. Cookie Dough Fundraiser: There was a net profit of $3000.00. There is still left over product due to having to buy by case to fill orders. Sweetheart Dance: To be held Friday February 11th. Kelly Iannone and Sherri Oliano will chair. Rock Cats Game: Will be scheduled Friday May 14. Cook Hill and Parker Farms will be attending that ay also. Market America: Karen Roza a representative from Market America spoke to the PTO about using Market America as a fundraiser. A website portal would be placed on the HYES PTO website and the PTO would receive royalty checks based on point values on purchased products. The Executive Board will review and vote at the E-Board meeting. Principal Reports: Highland – Victoria Reed: Highland K-Kids is made up of 60 students. Last week the students made holiday cards for CT Hosp. and they brainstormed ideas for the coming months. The cultural arts committee will have Little Theatre (for the deaf /verbally impaired) and Spaghetti Cake (sings character trait songs) perform for the students. The Variety Show is scheduled for January 7th. Yalesville – Ms. Dayo: K-Kids participated in the Wallingford Town Food Drive and made cards for Masonic Care. Pam Weborg added via phone that Officers were elected, participated in the Veterans Day Assembly, were planning a PJ’s Day for Relay for Life, and that they were officially chartered by Kiwanis’s. The district would be following a uniform Temperature Recess Policy. If the temperature was 28 degrees or lower with a wind chill factor recess would be indoors. Weather.com would be used to obtain temperature readings. The literacy Committee is headed up by Meredith Koch. Other: The next PTO Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday January11, 2011 @7PM in the Yalesville Library. The meeting was adjourned at 8:01 PM Minutes Respectively Submitted by Julie Pazareskis
