Periods 2, 6 Room C216

The Tool Kit

Standards:
ODE Academic Science Content Standards; Physical Sciences, Grade 9, Benchmark: A: Explain
how scientific evidence is used to develop and revise scientific predictions, ideas or theories.
Indicator 3: Demonstrate that scientific explanations adhere to established criteria, for example
a proposed explanation must be logically consistent, it must abide by the rules of evidence and
it must be open to questions and modifications.

Student Objectives:
9/19: Students will be able to calculate the accuracy and precision of their measurements.

9/20: Students will be able to calculate percent error and measurement uncertainty.

9/21: Students will be able to add and subtract vectors. Students will be able to use vectors to
describe displacement and velocity.

9/22: Students will be prepared to take Friday’s test.

9/23: Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the syllabus, laws vs. theory,
the 4 qualifications of science, scientific notation, significant figures, accuracy, precision,
percent error, uncertainty, vectors, and motion diagrams.

Rational for Lesson:
9/19: This is a continuation of the last Friday’s lab.

9/20: Precision and accuracy are expressed in two different ways; uncertainty and percent
error respectively.

9/21: Vectors are used to represent many quantities in Physics.

9/22: I want you to show me what you know tomorrow. I want make sure you have grasped
the topics we have covered.

9/23: This helps me know how well you are catching things.

Materials:
You need your Physics Lab Notebook for Monday and Tuesday. It is Due Wednesday. You need

Pre-class Preparation: What needs done before this day.

Periods 2, 6 Room C216
9/19: You need to get a good night’s rest. Eat a good breakfast. Leave for school or the bus
early so you do not start off the week in a bad mood.

9/20: Finish you lab write-up.

9/22: Do workbook homework and download and print off the review worksheet.

9/23: Study for the test. You need to get a good night’s rest. Eat a good breakfast. Leave for
school or the bus early so you do not start off the week in a bad mood.

Lesson with Time Allotments: 48 minutes per day
9/19:
48 min: Finish measurement lab. Correct quizzes.
Closing: When you are finished with the measuring, take your lab book home to finish the
calculations.

9/20:
12 min: Finish measurements.
-finish taking the measurement you need to do the calculations tonight.
20 min: Precision of your Great hall measurements.
-We will get a look at how to find how precisely we can measure the great hall with
meter sticks.
20 min: Distance vs. displacement and the introduction of vectors
-demonstration of distance vs. displacement. Describe that vectors have a direction and
a magnitude.
Closing: Read section 1.5 for homework

9/21:
25 min: Vectors
-We will learn how to add and subtract vectors. We will learn how to describe motion
with vectors
20 min: work in class with vectors
Closing: You have homework over vectors in your workbook for tomorrow. Make sure you
print off the review sheet for tomorrow. I will answer questions for you.

9/22:
5 min: Checking homework
-I need to check your homework.
43 min: Review game
-We will have a competition review game. Winning team earns bonus.
Closing: Make sure you study for you test tomorrow. I will collect review sheets for small grade.
