Program Description
In the CEP program, high school students will get an opportunity to experience and discover three different career streams over a period of three months. By the end of the program, these students will have more information on various career paths and will be able to make a more informed choice with their post secondary education. The career streams that we focus on are: FEBRUARY: Month 1 - Business MARCH: Month 2 - Science MAY: Month 3 - Government Three Program Components Part 1: Information Session Each month the students will have an information session corresponding to the career stream. The information sessions consists of a 2 hour meeting with 2 professionals from each career stream; who will give students further information about their career field, the education required and will answer any further questions students have. The greatest advantage students gain from these sessions is the networking they can do with the professionals and make contacts
to whom they can go to for more information. The representatives chosen for each career stream are as follows: Business – Accountant and Consultant Science – Doctor and Engineer Government– Liberal Party MPP and Investigative Officer Part 2: Field Trip For each career stream there is a corresponding fieldtrip that teaches the students more about the respective streams. Business: RBC Plaza Trading Floor Tour (including a Q&A with a stock trader) Government: 60 Queen St. W. Old City Hall Courthouse Session ( includes a Q&A with a Lawyer) Science: The Science Rendezvous Event at York University Campus Part 3: The Competition The 45 students will each get an opportunity to win a $250 cash prize. To enter the contest they must write a 500 word essay on how they felt that the career program benefited them and if it helped them to decide which career sector they are interested in. The winner will be chosen based on how well they explained their experience and the benefits they received. The winner will be announced at the end of the program in May.
