Included are training and instruction in straightening, forming, filling, sanding, and painting automobile bodies, Accessories installation, Auto Detailing and Automotive lubrication. As part of instruction, this course reinforces skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and mathematics and requires their application in workplace situations. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include communication, ethics, interpersonal/team skills, critical thinking and problem solving, safety, technology, and other employment skills. Students are given opportunities to demonstrate personal qualities, including responsibility, self-confidence, and self-management. Students complete up to 300 hours of combined classroom/lab instruction. COURSE OUTLINE Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the following skills necessary for Automotive services Occupations. Hours Classroom/Lab E. Understand occupational safety issues, and observe all safety rules. 1. Identify emergency fire and disaster procedures. 2. Wear appropriate clothing. 3. Use proper eye protection. 4. Observe all classroom and lab safety rules. 5. Identify potential hazards of water and electricity in the shop. 6. Use power tools correctly. 7. Use hand tools correctly. 8. Identify and handle hazardous materials correctly. 9. Pass class safety test. 10. Identify the role of the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Bureau of Automotive Repair. 11. Identify EPA and other government regulations relating to materials used in the industry. Understand career paths and strategies for obtaining employment. 1. Identify career opportunities and job responsibilities within the industry. 2. Describe job market trends in the area. 3. Fill out application forms completely and correctly. 4. Prepare a resume or job seeker’s card. 5. Apply effective job search skills, including locating employment information. 6. Identify effective interviewing techniques. Understand and adapt to changing technology. 1. Identify the function and operation of all equipment. 2. Use and maintain equipment. 3. Explain the role of computers in all businesses. 4. Explain the importance of lifelong learning in adapting to a constantly changing technology. 10 Additional hours for Career Preparation Standards are integration into instruction in content area standards.
