Next Sunday’s Sermon: “How’s Your Prayer Life?” Hospital chaplain and Clinical Pastoral Educator (CPS) supervisor, Rev. Jackie Kelly encounters people for whom prayer is a crucial part of their lives. Join Jackie as we wonder together about the meaning and significance of prayer for Unitarian Universalists. Are you willing to visit local offices of congress persons and senators to share our voice for healthcare legislation. Digital Photography Adventures is being formed for people interested in photography trips, tours and seminars. An informational meeting is Sunday, August 16th at 11:30. – Dick Taylor The UUSS Food Donation basket is in need of the following non-perishable items: packages of pasta, rice, beans, cereals; canned meat, fish, chicken and soups; jars of p-nut butter, salad dressing, fruit. The UUSS Food Donation Basket is accessible Monday through Friday (10am4pm), as well as Sundays. Please stop by the table in the lobby or outside to sign up to help out. As always, lots of volunteers are needed during the week the families are here. Your participation makes it possible for UUSS to be a partner in the Sacramento Family Promise work. Sign up to volunteer at the table after service, or by contacting Nancy Oprsal, Patricia Thomas, Jeanabeth Halley, or Joyce Bray. Volunteers from the UUSS participate in Literacy Little League, a reading intervention program, in its 13th year, at Edison Elementary school, near Arden & Morse Aves. Each volunteer is with one child for forty minutes during the regular school day with a credentialed teacher and other tutors present. When: Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, early afternoon. Not easy to watch - but take the time to see this 25-minute podcast of Bill Moyers' Journal July 24th episode, examining hate speech in the media. The episode includes a clip of the 2008 interview with the Reverend Chris Bruice, who serves the Tennessee Valley UU Church, first filmed shortly after the Knoxville shootings.
