                          NEWSLETTER September 2008

                                    HERON LAKE
                       YOUNG CARERS’ WATER ACTIVITIES
Carers Support Spelthorne was very lucky to be able to hire out Heron Lakes on Sat-
urday 5th July, especially as they normally only allow members in over the weekend…
but by opening the doors to us they gave Parent Carers, Young Carers and the chil-
dren with disabilities an excellent day out and an opportunity to try out the water
sports on offer.
Upon arrival people had the chance, if they wished, to get
changed into wet suits (or in my case a dry suit) and try water
skiing, banana boat, inflatable trampolines and jet ski’s …. al-
ternatively we could just sit back and relax on the surrounding
green and be entertained by the people cascading into the water, some more than
once!!!
Everyone who wanted to try the water actives did, with the support of the staff
keeping them safe and giving them lots of support throughout this entire process.
We all enjoyed an excellent lunch and the weather stayed dry and almost sunny…
The event was part funded by Cllr. Caroline Nicholls.

55 people were at the event: Other people at the event included:
• 24 Parent Carers • 6 volunteers from Heron Lakes
• 16 Young Carers • 3 people from CSS
• 15 children with disabilities • 1 Borough Councillor

The success of the day showed us that this was a worthy cause within our Borough
and fulfilled the need of many of our Young Carers and their families including their
extended families.
The day was great and enjoyed by all

it costs nothing, but creates much ……
it happens in a flash - but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever ….

And if I should be too tired to give you a smile will you please leave one of yours…

MERCEDES WORLD AND BROOKLANDS MUSEUM

A fantastic day out. Packed full of things to see and do. We began our day looking
round the wonderful showroom of Mercedes World. Looking at cars in the showroom
over 3 floors! – from sports car to smart car, all proved to be interesting. For those
who dared, a trip in the simulator, experiencing a ‘day in the life’ of a car and under-
standing how a car is made, painted, polished and perfected on the race track! From
there we went to Brooklands Museum and wandered round the museum of cars from
days gone by. What a fantastic display of cars from many years ago.
Also, modern day sports and race cars.
Rounding off with a trip round the hangers
where all the war planes are held and dis-
played. Finally, a trip on Concorde!!!

ASCOT GARDEN PARTY

As ever, a very popular event. Held on Sunday in the wonderful grounds of gardens in
Ascot, once again proved to be a very successful day out. Laughter, music, tea and
cakes. What more could one ask for!!

KNELLER HALL

At last.....!!!!! – a trip to Kneller Hall, last night of the proms,
when it didn’t rain!!! – Once again, a wonderful evening of music
and entertainment by the Royal Military Band. Already booking
up for 2009!!

BOAT TRIP

Weather.......perfect!!! – [Thanks to Ann who booked it..!] What a beautiful day we
had!! Leaving Runnymede we cruised up the Thames and through the locks. Looking at
the wonderful ‘back gardens’ as we went! – we all enjoyed tea and Dan-
ish pastries on the way. Once at Windsor, all off the boat we
pleased ourselves. Some visiting shops, other people watching the
boats go by and some went for won- derful lunches. A great day out,
very relaxing – but with all the fresh air, all very tired at the end of the day!!!

Look out for the events we have coming up from now until January 2009 – don’t for-
get to book early to avoid disappointment. See you there! Claire.
