Introduction to Subject
The JROTC program is designed to prepare high school students for responsible leadership roles while making
them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens. The curriculum is a stimulus
for promoting graduation from high school and provides instruction and rewarding opportunities that will
benefit the cadet, community and nation. Cadets can compete to participate in Extracurricular Teams such as,
Color Guard, Curriculum Team, Drill Team, Honor Guard, Raider Team and Rifle Team. Cadets also have the
opportunity to apply to participate in adventure training events including an annual week-long JROTC Summer
Camp. Upon successful completion of at least 3 years of successful involvement in JROTC, the cadet may be
awarded a Certificate of Completion. Even though JROTC is not a military service recruiting agency, this
certificate may qualify the cadet for accelerated promotion to E-3 if they decide to enlist in one of the United
States’ Armed Forces.

PHYSICAL FITNESS ACTIVITIES
JROTC training is physically demanding. You will be expected to participate in physical activities,
including physical fitness training. Appropriate athletic attire and footgear should be worn during these
activities. Any cadet with a known medical condition or physical limitation that could impact on their
ability to participate in physical activities must notify his or her instructor. For permanent physical
limitations, notification should be listed on the required ‘JROTC Parental Release and Statement of Health’
form which is sent home during the first week of the school year. In the event of an illness or injury that
temporarily limits a cadet’s physical ability, written notification (preferably a doctor’s note) is expected. It
is the cadet’s responsibility to insure that they do not violate their physical profile/limitations, regardless
of the activity being conducted in class.
JROTC classes are conducted in accordance with all KISD and SHS policies and guidelines, except
in those cases where JROTC program structure and organization requires even stricter rules or
procedures. Detailed procedures, expectations and policies will be discussed and explained during
the ‘Orientation’ phase of the course.
